SUMMARY:YELED / RHAPSODY IN BLUE / SECUS
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n  \n\n“`html\n  \nThursday 22 / Friday 23 February 2024 – 8:30 PM \nIn February\, the Aterballetto Company returns to dance at the Fonderia in Reggio Emilia with a double bill. \n\nOn stage\, a triptych composed of two repertoire choreographies: Yeled by Eyal Dadon opening the evening and Secus by Ohad Naharin concluding it. Interspersing them\, the new production created by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich set to the notes of George Gershwin\, debuting at the Teatro Regio in Parma on February 17: Rhapsody in Blue. \nThe evening involves the entire company of 16 dancers: in the first creation\, Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon leads a reflection on the moment in life when children lose their innocence; with Rhapsody in Blue Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich offer an innovative interpretation of Gershwin’s famous rhapsody\, just as it celebrates its 100th anniversary; Secus\, the eclectic masterpiece by Ohad Naharin\, concludes\, a bold and extravagant choreography of races\, solos\, crisp gestures\, and interrupted duets. \n\nIt is recommended to purchase tickets online. SUMMARY:YELED / SHOOT ME / RHAPSODY IN BLUE
DESCRIPTION:The Aterballetto Company arrives in the Basque Country\, in San Sebastián\, to open the Feria des Artes Escenicas with a program of three choreographies involving the entire company of 16 dancers. \nThe evening begins with Yeled by Eyal Dadon\, followed by Shoot Me by Diego Tortelli\, and concludes with Rhapsody in Blue\, the new production by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich\, debuting in February 2024. \nYELED – Eyal Dadon\nYeled\, a Hebrew word meaning “child\,” brings to the stage the reflection that Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon \, together with the dancers of Aterballetto\, has undertaken on the moment in life when one loses the innocence of childhood. \n\n  \nSHOOT ME – Diego Tortelli\nShoot Me by the resident choreographer of CCN / Aterballetto\, Diego Tortelli\, is a frontal work that establishes a direct exchange relationship between the dancers on stage and the audience in the auditorium. A game of seduction\, gazes\,  sweat\, an assault on the senses\, and an ode to the body\, to breathing the same air\, sweat\, tears\, fury\, pride. \n\n  \nRHAPSODY IN BLUE – Iratxe Ansa & Igor Bacovich\n«Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin holds various attractions for us. It is beautiful music\, known but perhaps not so frequently heard by newer generations. Introducing this work to the young audience is a good goal\, and it can be a way to provide a less distant and less ‘American’ vision of Gershwin\, going beyond the cultural context in which the rhapsody was created. The rhapsody will naturally dictate the choreographic work\, and the lively\, sparkling changes it offers are fantastic to play with.»– Iratxe Ansa & Igor Bacovich \n\n– \nCREDITS \nYELED \nCreation for 16 dancers of the company \nChoreography by Eyal Dadon Music by Eyal Dadon Set and lights by Fabiana Piccioli Costumes by Bregje Van Balen \nProduction by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto Co-production by Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia \nWith the contribution of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Israel in Italy \nPremiere April 27\, 2022\, Reggio Emilia\, Teatro Municipale Valli\nDuration 30’ \n— \nSHOOT ME \nRestaging for 16 dancers of the company \nCreation for 16 dancers of the company\nChoreography by Diego Tortelli Music by Spiritualized Costumes by Marco De Vincenzo Lights by Roman Fliegel \nProduction by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto Co-production by Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia \nPremiere April 27\, 2022\, Reggio Emilia\, Teatro Municipale Valli\nDuration 30’ \n— \nRHAPSODY IN BLUE \nCreation for 16 dancers of the company \nChoreography by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich Music by George Gershwin\, Rhapsody in Blue; Bessie Jones\, Beggin’ the blues Set and costumes by Fabio Cherstich Lights by Eric Soyer \nProduction by Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto In co-production with Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma With the contribution of Etxepare Euskal Institutua \nPremiere February 17\, 2024\, Teatro Regio di Parma\nDuration 20′

SUMMARY:Dreamers #1
DESCRIPTION:Aterballetto dances at Le Carré in Sainte-Maxime\, France\, the triple bill Dreamers #1 which highlights the eclecticism of the 16 dancers. \nThe evening opens with Shoot me\, a new creation by Diego Tortelli on the music of the rock group Spiritualized\, an abstract but tautly energetic choreography. This is followed by  “O”\, Philippe Kratz’s little masterpiece\, an hypnotic duet with an unstoppable rhythm. All 16 dancers of the company close the evening with the iconic BLISS\, a creation by choreographer Johan Inger on Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert.

SUMMARY:YELED / SECUS
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, March 26\, Aterballetto is back touring in Germany\, dancing at the Staatsoper in Hannover. The entire group of sixteen dancers will present Yeled and Secus\, choreographed by Israelis Eyal Dadon and Ohad Naharin. \nYeled by Eyal Dadon \n\nYeled in Hebrew means child. Can we change ourselves as adults? Can we go back to being children?\n“In the process of creation with the dancers\, I reflected on the moment in our lives\, as adults\, when we lost the feeling of being children\, the feeling of being naturally pure\, and the ability to have clean filters. When was the moment we lost our innocence and why? One of the main keys to the creation is the real things we learned as children and how these things shaped us into the people we are today.” – Eyal Dadon \nSecus by Ohad Naharin \n\nSecus boasts a musical collage that ranges from the unusual electronic styles of AGF to the seductive Indian melodies of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai\, to the resonant harmonies of the Beach Boys. This adventurously eclectic mix serves as the suitable backdrop for a bold and extravagant choreography that unfolds before our incredulous eyes in a human alphabet made up of sprints\, solos\, crisp and clean gestures\, interrupted duets. Through precise and sudden kicks\, sinuous disarticulation of hips\, torsos bending in all directions like molding clay\, Secus expresses pure emotions and feelings without becoming sentimental.

SUMMARY:STORIE

SUMMARY:RHAPSODY IN BLUE
DESCRIPTION:Terme di Caracalla \nSaturday\, April 13\, 2024\, at 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM \nAccess to the performance is included with the purchase of the entrance ticket to the site \nAfter over a thousand years\, water\, the foundational and vital element of all thermal facilities\, returns to the Terme di Caracalla with the Water Mirror: a contemporary architectural intervention promoted by the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma\, directed by Daniela Porro. \nThe project\, born from the collaboration of Mirella Serlorenzi\, site director\, with architect Hannes Peer\, evokes the suggestions of the thermal environments with mist\, jets\, and light effects that will evoke the ancient Baths. Added to this is the element of the reflection of the archaeological architecture in the Water Mirror\, which invites contemplation in parallel with the immersive experience. \nOn Saturday\, April 13\, at 4:00 PM\, the Aterballetto Company will perform at Caracalla for the inauguration of the Water Mirror. On this occasion\, the Roman premiere of Rhapsody in Blue\, choreographed by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich for the centenary of George Gershwin’s composition\, will be presented. \nThe show\, realized in collaboration with Electa and scheduled at the Terme di Caracalla thanks to an initial idea by Cristiano Leone\, artistic consultant for cultural activities at the site\, will be presented in a double performance\, at 4:00 PM and at 5:30 PM. Access to the performance is included with the entrance ticket to the site. \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Rhapsody in Blue / Another Story / Bliss
DESCRIPTION:The Aterballetto Company is on stage at the Modena Municipal Theater with a new triptych of choreographies: Rhapsody in Blue by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich\, Another Story by Diego Tortelli\, and Bliss by Johan Inger. \nRhapsody in Blue is a brand-new creation by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich set to the music of George Gershwin’s eponymous composition. Another Story by Diego Tortelli\, premiered in 2021 in Rovereto\, tells the story of the most feared and desired gesture of 2020\, a year marked by a global epidemic: the hug\, set to the music of the English rock band Spiritualized. BLISS is one of the company’s flagship works\, created by the award-winning Swedish choreographer Johan Inger. Accompanied by the notes of Keith Jarrett’s famous and iconic Köln Concert\, the choreography is a true celebration of the joy of dancing. The euphoria of the performers is a pleasure to behold\, so contagious and powerful that since 2016 it continues to captivate theaters around the world. \n\n– \n\n–

SUMMARY:STORIE
DESCRIPTION:Aterballetto performs Stories at the Civic Theater in Vercelli as part of the We Speak Dance festival. \n\nStories is a small anthology of danced fragments. They represent only an infinitesimal part of the rich artistic and human universe of the two choreographers Diego Tortelli and Philippe Kratz.\nTortelli creates two pieces: Prelude\, opening the evening\, is a love letter to the body for five dancers set to the music of Nick Cave\, Another Story is a duet on the impossible gesture of 2020\, the hug. Between past and future are the two creations of Kratz. The duo “O” presents two bodies/automatons\, forcing us to question how the sense of physical contact might change: will it remain emotional and heartfelt\, or become serial and alienated? Alpha Grace\, a sextet at the conclusion of the evening\, is a reflection on empathy\, a gentle form of communication between people who feel on the same level. It too is challenged by the present times.\n\n

SUMMARY:YELED / RHAPSODY IN BLUE / SECUS
DESCRIPTION:The Teatro Verdi in Pordenone hosts the Aterballetto Company as part of a series dedicated to the international dance. The evening begins with Yeled by Eyal Dadon\, followed by Rhapsody in Blue\, the latest production by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich. The night concludes with Secus\, a creation by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin\, restaged for the Company in 2019. \nYELED – Eyal Dadon\nYeled\, a Hebrew word meaning “child\,” brings to the stage the reflection that Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon\, together with the dancers of Aterballetto\, has undertaken on the moment in life when one loses the innocence of childhood. \n  \n  \n\n  \nRHAPSODY IN BLUE – Iratxe Ansa & Igor Bacovich\n«Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin holds various attractions for us. It is beautiful music\, known but perhaps not so frequently heard by newer generations. Introducing this work to the young audience is a good goal\, and it can be a way to provide a less distant and less ‘American’ vision of Gershwin\, going beyond the cultural context in which the Rhapsody was created. The Rhapsody will naturally dictate the choreographic work\, and the lively\, sparkling changes it offers are fantastic to play with.» – Iratxe Ansa & Igor Bacovich \n\n  \nSECUS – Ohad Naharin\nSecus is a creation by Ohad Naharin featuring a music collage ranging from the unconventional electronic styles of AGF to the seductive Indian melodies of Kaho Naa Pyar Hai and the resonant harmonies of the Beach Boys. This daringly eclectic mix serves as a fitting backdrop for the boldly extravagant choreography. \n\n– \nCREDITSYELED \nCreation for 16 dancers of the company \nChoreography: Eyal Dadon Music: Eyal Dadon Set and lights: Fabiana Piccioli Costumes: Bregje Van Balen \nProduction: Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto Co-production: Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia \nWith the contribution of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Israel in Italy \nPremiere: April 27\, 2022\, Reggio Emilia\, Teatro Municipale Valli \n\nRHAPSODY IN BLUE \nCreation for 16 dancers of the company \nChoreography: Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich Music: George Gershwin\, Rhapsody in Blue; Bessie Jones\, Beggin’ the blues Set and costumes: Fabio Cherstich Lights: Eric Soyer \nProduction: Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto Co-production with: Fondazione Teatro Regio di Parma With the contribution of: Etxepare Euskal Institutua \nPremiere: February 17\, 2024\, Teatro Regio di Parma Duration: 20′ \n\nSECUS \nRestaging for 16 dancers of the company \nChoreography: Ohad Naharin Music: Chari Chari\, Kid 606 + Rayon (mix: Stefan Ferry)\, AGF\, Chronomad (Wahed)\, Fennesz\, Kaho Naa Pyar Hai\, Seefeel\, The Beach Boys Sound design & editing: Ohad Fishof Costumes: Rakefet Levy Lights: Avi Yona Bueno (Bambi) Choreography Assistants: Rachael Osborne\, Ian Robinson \nCreation for Batsheva Dance Company (inside Three\, 2005) \nProduction: Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto Co-production: Festival Oriente Occidente (I)\, Les Halles de Schaerbeek (B)\, Malraux scène nationale Chambéry Savoie (F) \nPremiere: September 6\, 2019\, Festival Oriente Occidente\, Teatro Zandonai\, Rovereto Duration: 30’

SUMMARY:YELED / SECUS
DESCRIPTION:The Aterballetto Company performs at the Lodz Ballet Festival 2024 in Poland\, showcasing Yeled by Eyal Dadon and Secus by Ohad Naharin. \nYELED – Eyal Dadon\nYeled in Hebrew means child. One of the main keys to the creation is the real things we learned as children and how these things shaped us into the people we are today.” – Eyal Dadon \n\nSECUS – Ohad Naharin\nSecus is a creation by Ohad Naharin which boasts a musical collage ranging from the unusual electronic styles of AGF to the seductive Indian melodies of Kaho Naa Pyar Hai to the resonant harmonies of the Beach Boys. This adventurously eclectic mix serves as a fitting backdrop for the boldly extravagant choreography.

One of the main keys to the creation is the real things we learned as children and how these things shaped us into the people we are today.” – Eyal Dadon \n\nSECUS – Ohad Naharin\nSecus is a creation by Ohad Naharin which boasts a musical collage ranging from the unusual electronic styles of AGF to the seductive Indian melodies of Kaho Naa Pyar Hai to the resonant harmonies of the Beach Boys. This adventurously eclectic mix serves as a fitting backdrop for the boldly extravagant choreography.

The encounter with dance is an important opportunity for both physical and emotional growth. Family Contact is a moment of sharing between children and parents that aims to explore new worlds. Being together through the body\, movement\, physical contact\, creating and building a new harmonic union. Parents and children will experiment with new relationships\, new spaces\, new languages\, all through the body that will enjoy improvising and experimenting with new collective games\, in a non-verbal dialogue rich in human connections. SUMMARY:OPEN REHEARSAL - NOTTE MORRICONE
DESCRIPTION:«”I\, Ennio Morricone\, am dead\,” wrote the composer before saying goodbye. His music\, on the other hand\, cannot do so. And this is how creators and artists always leave us without really leaving\, and this is how memory takes care to keep them alive\, to keep them safe. Notte Morricone is my gift\, a devoted tribute to the beauty he gave to the world. Ennio Morricone could be my father or my grandfather; I am a direct heir to his legacy\, to the films that (whether masterpieces\, good\, mediocre\, or bad) owe him an immeasurable debt.» – Marcos Morau \nNotte Morricone\, the new creation by CCN / Aterballetto created by the award-winning choreographer Marcos Morau\, debuts on August 1\, 2024\, at the Arena Sferisterio during the Macerata Opera Festival. The show features the entire ensemble of the Compagnia Aterballetto and\, thanks to a coalition of national co-producers\, celebrates the indelible artistic legacy of Oscar-winning Ennio Morricone. \nOn Monday\, June 10\, at 6:00 PM\, the Fonderia audience will have the opportunity to witness the preparation of Notte Morricone. \nOpen rehearsals are unique moments where one can witness the creation of a show\, interact with the artists\, and be amazed by the art of dance: a special occasion that allows the audience into the daily routines of the dancers and choreographers. \n  \nCREDITS \nDirector and Choreography MARCOS MORAU\nMusic ENNIO MORRICONE\nMusical Direction and Adaptation by MAURIZIO BILLI\nSet and Lighting MARC SALICRÚ\nCostumes SILVIA DELAGNEAU \nProduction Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto \nCommission\, Co-production\, Outdoor Premiere Macerata Opera Festival\nCo-production\, Indoor Premiere Fondazione Teatro di Roma\nCo-productions Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia\, Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara Trento\, Centro Teatrale Bresciano\nCo-production Ravenna Festival | Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini \nOutdoor Premiere August 1\, 2024\, Macerata Opera Festival \nIndoor Premiere October 24 – November 10\, 2024\, Rome\, Teatro Argentina \nThe performances at Teatro Argentina are co-presented with Fondazione Teatro di Roma and Romaeuropa Festival \nEARLY SUGGESTIONS \n«I am often asked what music I listen to\, what music inspires me or accompanies me in my daily life\, and I always respond the same way: from classical music to contemporary waves\, I draw inspiration from many diverse sources\, and Ennio Morricone is always at the top of the list. \nMorricone’s music embodies that abstract sense of what is not said and not seen in films. Although it is almost impossible to separate his music from the images it accompanies\, Morricone transcends and intertwines with life itself\, with memories\, and with the beauty and cruelty of a world that continues to move forward\, destroying and building itself every day.\nHis music has a powerful melancholic quality that stems both from the contemplation of the past and from the impossibility of capturing any past experience. \nClassically trained with an avant-garde vocation\, Morricone was always beyond the trends of the moment. Today\, three years after his death\, Morricone continues to inspire artists and visionaries in various fields\, and his music belongs to an entire century\, having revived many of our great masters.\nHis music was a genre in itself\, and for this evening\, I want to build a universe based on his sensibility to confirm that his legacy is more alive than ever and that\, as he himself would say\, “my music has a life of its own\, that can live far from the films for which it was created”.» \n(Marcos Morau\, February 2023) \nMARCOS MORAU \nRecently appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture and selected as the best choreographer of 2023 by the German magazine TANZ\, the career of Marcos Morau (born in Valencia in 1982) continues to flourish as a creator and stage director. \nTrained between Barcelona and New York in photography\, choreography\, theater theory\, and dramaturgy\, Marcos Morau constructs imaginary worlds and landscapes where image\, text\, movement\, music\, and space form a unique universe constantly nourished by cinema\, photography\, and literature. \nSince 2004\, Marcos has directed La Veronal\, a company present in top theaters and festivals across more than thirty countries: Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris\, the Venice Biennale\, the Avignon Festival\, Tanz Im August in Berlin\, the RomaEuropa Festival\, the SIDance Festival de Seoul\, Sadler’s Wells in London\, Danse Danse Montreal\, among many others. \nIn addition to his work with La Veronal\, Marcos Morau is an international guest artist in various companies and theaters where he develops new creations\, always at the intersection of performing arts and dance: Nederlands Dans Theater\, Lyon Opera Ballet\, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens\, Royal Danish Ballet\, and The Royal Ballet of Flanders\, among others. \nAs the youngest creator to receive the National Dance Award\, the highest recognition in Spain\, the future of Morau and La Veronal aims to explore new formats and languages where opera\, dance\, and physical theater interact more than ever\, seeking new ways to express and communicate in our turbulent and ever-evolving times. \nStarting from this season\, he is an associated artist at the Staatsballett Berlin. \n“La Veronal is a reminder that dance is often at the forefront of the most innovative theater.” – The New York Times \n“Morau’s visual treatment is so brilliant\, so vividly strange\, that we become involved in what turns out to be a story of transmission and emancipation.” – Le Monde \n“Morau\, one of the most interesting young choreographers on the contemporary dance scene.” – El País

SUMMARY:MICRODANZE
DESCRIPTION:  \nMicroDances arrive in Sarzana at the Fisiko! Festival – International Festival of Bad Actions. \nThe Program\nEppur si muove by Francesca Lattuada\nNear life experience by Angelin Preljocaj\nA GIG by Diego Tortelli\nActive Motivation by Elena Kekkou \nIn Eppur si muove by Francesca Lattuada\, a performer on a pedestal barrel is drawn to the notes of Beethoven’s Allegretto. His dance fascinates and seduces\, imposing like a prayer chant. Near life experience by Angelin Preljocaj explores the body in intermediate situations\, such as ecstasy and fainting. The subject is elsewhere\, captured by space and time. A GIG\, in the jargon of musicians and rock enthusiasts\, is a performance by the headlining group of an event. Diego Tortelli designs a short opening or closing act\, something brief to warm up the audience or bid them goodnight. Active Motivation by Elena Kekkou explores human existence\, an infinite line that\, in its wandering\, intersects with other lines creating interaction. \n\nFor groups of 30 spectators every 10 minutes. To attend the performance\, it is necessary to arrive promptly at the chosen time slot. \nDuration: 60 minutes \nThree performances: 8:00 PM\, 8:45 PM\, 9:30 PM

SUMMARY:NOTTE MORRICONE
DESCRIPTION:“‘I\, Ennio Morricone\, am dead\,’ wrote the composer before bidding farewell. His music\, on the other hand\, cannot. And thus\, creators and artists always leave us without leaving us\, and thus memory takes care to keep them alive\, to keep them safe. Notte Morricone is my gift\, a devout tribute to the beauty he gave to the world. Ennio Morricone could be my father\, or my grandfather\, I am a direct heir to his legacy\, to the films that (whether masterpieces\, good\, mediocre\, or bad) owe him an immeasurable debt.” – Marcos Morau \nNotte Morricone\, the new creation of CCN / Aterballetto by the award-winning choreographer Marcos Morau\, debuts on August 1\, 2024\, at the Arena Sferisterio of the Macerata Opera Festival. The show features the entire ensemble of the Aterballetto Company and\, thanks to a group of national co-producers\, celebrates the indelible artistic legacy of Oscar-winning Ennio Morricone. \nAfter collaborating with some of the most renowned international choreographers\, such as Jiří Kylián\, Ohad Naharin\, and Johan Inger\, the CCN now turns to Marcos Morau\, one of the most sought-after choreographers in the contemporary scene. The Spanish author\, with his visionary power and the ability to transfigure musical universes\, proposes a unique evening that intertwines dance\, visual arts\, and cinematic suggestions. According to Gigi Cristoforetti\, “thanks also to the collaboration of important production partners\, some of whom have been faithful over the years\, others brand new and arrived for the occasion\, the CCN/Aterballetto faces its most ambitious challenge.” \nWith an innate tendency to reconcile very different vocabularies and inspirations\, Marcos Morau is an artist capable of deeply interrogating contemporaneity\, of which he is an intense choreographic voice\, but not only. In him\, the theme of the hybridization of languages is “native\,” as we could say borrowing the expression used for millennials and their digital practice. \nThe show is the result of interdisciplinary collaborations between dance\, music\, and theater entities. Two main co-producers: Macerata Opera Festival (first outdoor: August 1\, 2024) and Teatro di Roma (first indoor: October 24 at Teatro Argentina\, where the performances will continue until November 10). Also co-producing are the Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia\, the Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara of Trento\, the Centro Teatrale Bresciano\, and Ravenna Festival which has made available the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini\, to which the score is entrusted\, adapted and transcribed by Maestro Maurizio Billi. \nPURCHASE THE TICKET\n  \nCREDITS \nDirection and choreography MARCOS MORAU\nMusic ENNIO MORRICONE\nMusical direction and adaptation by MAURIZIO BILLI\nSound design ALEX RÖSER VATICHÉ\, BEN MEERWEIN\nSet and lighting MARC SALICRÚ\nCostumes SILVIA DELAGNEAU\nChoreography assistants SHAY PARTUSH\, MARINA RODRÍGUEZ \nProduction Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto \nCommission\, co-production\, outdoor premiere Macerata Opera Festival\nCo-production\, indoor premiere Fondazione Teatro di Roma\nCo-productions Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia\, Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara Trento\, Centro Teatrale Bresciano\nCo-production Ravenna Festival | Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini \nOutdoor premiere August 1\, 2024\, Macerata Opera Festival \nIndoor premiere October 24 – November 10\, 2024\, Rome\, Teatro Argentina \nThe performances at Teatro Argentina are co-presented with Fondazione Teatro di Roma and Romaeuropa Festival \nEARLY SUGGESTIONS \n“People often ask me what music I listen to\, what music inspires or accompanies me in my daily life\, and I always respond in the same way: from classical music to the new contemporary waves\, I draw inspiration from many different sources and Ennio Morricone is always at the top of the list. \nMorricone’s music embodies that abstract sense of what is unsaid and unseen in films. Although it is almost impossible to separate his music from the images that accompany it\, Morricone transcends and intertwines with life itself\, with memories\, and with the beauty and cruelty of a world that continues to move forward\, destroying and rebuilding itself every day.\nHis music has a powerful melancholic quality that stems from both the contemplation of the past and the impossibility of capturing any past experience. \nWith a classical background and avant-garde vocation\, Morricone has always been beyond the trends of the moment. Today\, three years after his death\, Morricone continues to inspire artists and visionaries from various fields\, and his music belongs to an entire century and has revived many of our great masters.\nHis music was a genre unto itself\, and for this evening\, I would like to build a universe based on his sensitivity to confirm that his legacy is more alive than ever and that\, as he himself would say\, ‘my music has a life of its own\, which can live far from the films for which it was created’.” \n(Marcos Morau\, February 2023) \nMARCOS MORAU \nRecently appointed Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture and selected as the best choreographer of the year 2023 by the German magazine TANZ\, the career of Marcos Morau (Valencia 1982) continues to grow as a creator and stage director. \nTrained between Barcelona and New York\, in photography\, choreography\, and theater theory and dramaturgy\, Marcos Morau constructs imaginary worlds and landscapes where image\, text\, movement\, music\, and space constitute a unique universe that is constantly nourished by cinema\, photography\, and literature. \nSince 2004\, Marcos has directed La Veronal\, a company present in the best theaters and festivals in over thirty countries: Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris\, the Venice Biennale\, the Avignon Festival\, Tanz Im August in Berlin\, the RomaEuropa Festival\, the SIDance Festival in Seoul\, Sadler’s Wells in London\, Danse Danse Montreal\, among many others. \nIn addition to his work with La Veronal\, Marcos Morau is an international guest artist in various companies and theaters where he develops new creations\, always halfway between performing arts and dance: Nederlands Dans Theater\, Lyon Opera Ballet\, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens\, Royal Danish Ballet\, or The Royal Ballet of Flanders\, among others. \nAs the youngest creator to receive the National Dance Prize\, the highest recognition in Spain\, the future of Morau and La Veronal aims at the search for new formats and languages where opera\, dance\, and physical theater dialogue more than ever\, seeking new ways of expression and communication in our present time\, always turbulent and constantly evolving. \nFrom this season onwards\, he is an associated artist at the Staatsballett Berlin. \n“La Veronal is a reminder that dance is often at the forefront of the most innovative theater.” – The New York Times \n“Morau’s visual treatment is so brilliant\, so vividly strange\, that we are drawn into what also proves to be a story of transmission and emancipation.” – Le Monde \n“Morau\, one of the most interesting young choreographers on the contemporary dance scene.” – El País

SUMMARY:Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda
DESCRIPTION:One of the most extraordinary works by Claudio Monteverdi\, the most universally renowned figure in Italian Baroque music\, Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda\, which celebrates its 400th anniversary in 2024\, becomes the foundation of an innovative multidisciplinary project\, where music\, singing\, theater\, and dance blend to create a seamless hybrid of performance languages. The choreography is by Philippe Kratz\, while the direction is by Fabio Cherstich\, whose work combines a strong focus on imagery and a passion for visual languages. \nChiesa di Sant’Agata – Museo Archeologico Nazionale e Teatro Romano di Spoleto\n12 September 2024 – 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM\nDuration of each performance: 25 minutes \nSite-specific version Premiere \n \nCREDITS\nDirection and visuals: FABIO CHERSTICH\nChoreography and stage movements: PHILIPPE KRATZ\nMusic: IL COMBATTIMENTO DI TANCREDI E CLORINDA by CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI\nDancers: GADOR LAGO BENITO\, ALBERTO TERRIBILE \nCoproduction: FONDAZIONE NAZIONALE DELLA DANZA / ATERBALLETTO\, TEATRO REGIO DI PARMA / FESTIVAL VERDI\, TORINODANZA FESTIVAL – TEATRO STABILE DI TORINO – TEATRO NAZIONALE\, GHISLIERIMUSICA – CENTRO DI MUSICA ANTICA \nIl Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is a project aimed at enhancing live performance activities within institutes and cultural sites\, promoted by the Directorate General of Museums and co-financed by the Directorate General of Performing Arts. \nFor the realization of the project\, the National Museums of Perugia – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Umbria – and specifically the National Archaeological Museum and Roman Theatre of Spoleto – established\, with the support of the Directorate General of Museums\, a partnership shared by five other significant cultural sites: Villa Pisani in Stra\, the Castle and Park of Racconigi\, the Swabian Castle of Bari\, the Charterhouse of San Martino in Naples\, and the Archaeological Park of Venosa; joining them is Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome\, which will host the initiative as part of the summer festival Sotto l’angelo di Castello. \n \nSITE-SPECIFIC VERSION \n\nChurch of Sant’Agata – National Archaeological Museum and Roman Theatre of Spoleto (PG) – 12 September 2024 PREMIERE\n\nCastel Sant’Angelo in Rome – 13 September 2024\n\nMonumental Complex of the Castle and Park of Racconigi (CN) – 22 September 2024\n\nNational Museum of Villa Pisani\, Stra (VE) – 28 September 2024\n\nCharterhouse and Museum of San Martino\, Naples – 03 October 2024\n\nSwabian Castle of Bari – 05 October 2024\n\nNational Archaeological Museum “Mario Torelli” of Venosa (PZ) – 06 October 2024\n\nKosmos – Museum of Natural History of the University of Pavia – 12 October 2024\n\n\n \nTHEATRICAL VERSION \n\nPREVIEW: Turin – Torinodanza Festival\, Fonderie Limone – 20-21 September 2024\n\nPREMIERE: Parma – Festival Verdi\, Teatro Farnese – 18-19 October 2024\n\nThe project is part of Italia Danza\, a co-project curated by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of Maeci and CCN/Aterballetto for the promotion of Italy’s artistic heritage abroad. \nBODIES AS MIRRORS \nIn my vision of Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda\, I imagine a confined\, circular space where the proximity and similarity of the bodies play a fundamental role. Together with choreographer Philippe Kratz\, we explore the idea of bodies as mirrors\, thus narrating the story of humanity in a struggle against itself. Eros and Thanatos emerge as equally powerful forces\, creating a paradoxical atmosphere in this perfectly balanced fight between human beings. \nIn conceiving this new creation\, I explicitly draw inspiration from body art\, particularly the work of Marina Abramović and Ana Mendieta\, who explore the connection between the body\, the earth\, and primordial rites. I want the combat to reflect the protagonists’ relationship with the surrounding space\, incorporating natural elements into their absurd dance of death. \nA single voice will give life to three characters: the text itself\, Tancredi\, and Clorinda will merge into the body and sound of a countertenor. This estranged and forced sound\, following a circular path\, creates a sense of constant repetition\, emphasizing the endless cycle of this love-and-death story\, tragically destined to repeat itself through the centuries\, reaching us in all its strength—the emanation of the poetic power of Tasso’s words and the magnificent music of Monteverdi. \nFabio Cherstich\, Director \nINNER STRUGGLEFrom Torquato Tasso’s story\, transposed into music by Claudio Monteverdi\, the most obvious themes are the battle between woman and man\, and religious conversion. However\, these are the aspects I find least intriguing: translating them into dance would result in a narrative of mere circumstances. \nA more philosophical or psychoanalytic reading of this struggle\, from which both protagonists emerge defeated\, deceived\, and solitary\, seems far more interesting to me. Within the opposition of the two roles\, there is already an entire world: the seeking\, the confrontation\, and the mutual wounding. The dynamic follows the warlike and conflictual ritual of two entities approaching each other. The absurdity of the act manifests when one person loses their life\, and we realize that the other\, nevertheless\, has not won… a strong\, shared wound that remains on both bodies. So\, are these two people fighting each other\, or perhaps is one person fighting against themselves? \nPhilippe Kratz\, Choreographer \nA NEW CULTURAL DIALOGUE \nThe dance and live music project in museums Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda represents a new milestone in the enhancement of cultural heritage through the languages associated with all the arts. With its expressiveness and ability to engage\, dance enriches the museum experience\, making it vibrant\, dynamic\, and accessible to everyone. The synergy among the numerous institutions that have collaborated on the project allows us to present the performance in various cultural venues across the country\, establishing this initiative among the best practices of the National Museum System. \nMassimo Osanna\, General Director of Museums\nMinistry of Culture \nWe are pleased that from a project – Italia Danza – born from the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy to promote\, in partnership with Aterballetto\, contemporary Italian dance abroad\, has created the bridge that has enabled this format to also be brought into Italian museums through a collaboration between Aterballetto and the Directorate General of Museums. For us\, this new partnership confirms the value and modernity of the work that the Directorate General I represent pursues daily to promote Italian culture abroad. \nFilippo La Rosa\, Deputy General Director for Public and Cultural Diplomacy\nMinistry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation \nWe are honored to lead such a virtuous project: building a national network capable of bringing baroque melodrama\, live music\, dance\, and contemporary direction into our museums is undoubtedly a remarkable way to enhance our heritage.\nThe Church of Sant’Agata\, part of the National Archaeological Museum and Roman Theatre of Spoleto\, seemed to us the most suitable space to host Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda: a place capable of providing an exceptional stage to offer spectators a unique experience of the convergence of languages\, from the past to the present. The dancers will perform in an 11th-century environment\, in front of the new altarpiece created by the artist Stefano di Stasio\, a dialogue between the ancient and the contemporary that fits well with this project. \nCostantino D’Orazio\, Director of the National Museums of Perugia – \nRegional Directorate of National Museums of Umbria \n\nINFO&TICKETS \nAdmission to the show is free\, with mandatory reservation at the email drm-umb.segreteria@cultura.gov.it. \nAt 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM\, guided tours will also be offered by reservation (drm-umb.segreteria@cultura.gov.it)\, upon purchase of the museum entry ticket. \n
