DESCRIPTION:OPEN REHEARSAL\n\nOpen rehearsals are unique moments in which one can experience the backstage of a performance\, dialogue with the artists and be surprised by the art of dance. \nUnder the title LOVE POEMS\, the MM Contemporary Dance Company presents an evening composed of three new choreographies all under the sign of contemporary: \n– DUETTO INOFFENSIVO (excerpt from ‘Rossini Cards’) by MAURO BIGONZETTI restaged for MMCDC \n– BRUTAL LOVE POEMS by THOMAS NOONE \n– VIVALDI UMANE PASSIONI by MICHELE MEROLA. \nThe three works are performed by eight dancers from MMCDC\, a reality of excellence in Italian dance\, with a consolidated activity of performances throughout the country.\nThe choreographies of the programme\, linked by the common denominator of a distinctive musicality\, are characterised by a strong implication as much interpretative as technical\, which will highlight the stylistic versatility and extraordinary skill of the company’s dancers. For the choreographer\, returning the fire of passions to bodies contaminated by life has always been a conditio sine qua non for representing the meaning of existence on Earth. And it is in the pages of the great composers that Merola loves to search for perspectives\, symmetries\, assonances between human feeling and music. His encounter with Antonio Vivaldi springs from this desire\, for a new production where ‘the relationship between music and movement plays the lion’s share’\, says Merola. \nStarting with Vivaldi’s best pieces and suggestions from the paintings of Marc Chagall\, Michele Merola has created Vivaldi Umane passioni: “With Vivaldi and baroque music\, I rediscover a love for pure choreographic design\, while the inspiration I find in Marc Chagall’s paintings – works such as The Birthday (1915)\, On the City (1918)\, Love on the Scene (1920)\, Introduction to Jewish Theatre (1920) – \, has guided my work towards human passions\, the evasion from the everyday to detach oneself from the ground\, listening to inner emotions. In both artists\, I sense a great desire for life\, beauty\, elegance in living’. \nSome of the composer’s best-known scores are mirrored in Merola’s journeys: the violin concertos La Follia\, L’Inquietudine\, L’Estro Armonico\, and Il Favorito best express the sentiments that punctuate one’s life. Faced with this supreme grace\, the vortex of sonorous intensity and richness of timbre\, Merola pushes the accelerator of movement dynamics to develop new reflections. As an ‘athlete of the heart’\, and of its most secret recesses\, the choreographer visualises those themes with intimate involvement and a strongly contemporary slant\, sculpting them in dance and in the air with the same passion and fury dictated by the notes. Fuelled by the two arts\, the dialogue that is created\, intense\, balanced in terms of the balance of forces\, enriches and nourishes the spectator’s imagination with complexity and compositional richness. Figures of women who are symbols of independence of thought\, strength and courage and at the same time fragility in the face of violence and abuse. Their freedom\, as in so many other cases\, is punished\, violated\, with tragic results. Moreover he experiences a lot of heterogeneous disciplines: Renaiassance dance\, modern dance\, hip-hop and muscular rebalancing workshop ‘Monari Method’.\nIn 2010 he starts a personal research focused on shape and definition of the “stratification” and “landscape” concepts in connection with the body\, that develops in installations and choreographic pieces. Chimerical beings and oneiric figures appear\, like leafing through an armorial or medieval bestiary. They seem to tell us stories of conflicts which took place in the well delimited perimeter of an emblematic battlefield. \nIn ancient times\, graphic marks and color combinations showed up on the armors in response to the military need to identify opposite factions during fights. Thus arose coats of arms\, systems of signs\, shapes and colors organized in a form\, often that of a shield. They were used to reveal\, according to a precise sign alphabet\, the identity of a person\, a family\, a whole community. In the form of vivid colors and fantastic beasts\, those emblems hint at political tensions\, expressions of belonging\, dominance and power. \nPanzetti/Ticconi – Ara! Ara! – ph. Valerio Figuccio  \nARA! ARA! is the designation of a symbol. The symbol of a rising power that chooses a bird to represent itself. Not a majestic and fearsome raptor like the eagle\, an animal often used as a heraldic symbol of power. On the contrary\, a bird that communicates fun and quietness by becoming\, according to a popular western look\, an exotic icon: the parrot ARA. It was introduced to the circus for its acrobatic abilities which\, together with the bright colours of its plumage and the ability to repeat sounds and words by imitation\, made it a perfect animal for entertainment in captivity.\nARA! ARA! represents a seductive power for its friendly and festive appearance that\, like the bird\, imitates and repeats\, bringing back patterns from the past\, ignoring contents and effects. \nSecond part of a diptych started with AeReA\, ARA! And yet\, as in Dante’s Inferno\, there are traces of a decayed humanity\, souls that preserve memory of themselves and their past\, individualities that emerge like spots of colour in the indistinct magma\, out of a desire to tell the outside observer about their lives before death. \nSome of them cross the stage still wearing their worn-out earthly clothes\, remnants of a nobility that is no longer worth anything\, where everyone is equal. The choreography deals with various problems of the individual in contemporary society. The virtual reality\, which the world pushes us to seek and create\, contrasts with the loneliness present in everyday life. The problem of one’s identity outside of the digital self-presentation\, the desire for “real” encounters and connections\, as well as the omnipresence of fears and their influence on our actions\, form the foundations of this piece. \nIvan Alboresi shows restless protagonists who are constantly searching for themselves\, for support\, for security. But at the same time the fear of connecting with the other\, of losing control or being rejected. He contrasts this restlessness with moments of almost catatonic torpor.
