The JUNIORS’ commitment is not limited to educational activity\, however: the company offers young dancers a path of artistic and professional development. In January 2024 came RENAISSANCE\, the first production entirely produced by the JUNIORS\, with new creations by Rena Butler and Barak Marshall and choreographies by Sharon Eyal\, Andonis Foniadakis and Marco Goecke\, as well as a short film by Eric Gauthier. Some bodies are pushed away\, veiled and symbolically buried by those who remain. Ash and water fall upon them in a gesture that wavers between punishment\, mourning and blessing.\nSince ancient times\, communities have built rituals to honour their dead and safeguard their memory. To bury\, cover\, wash or keep vigil over a body has never been merely an act of farewell\, but also a way of acknowledging that individual existence lives on within collective history. The dead remain among the living through remembrance\, shared stories and the gestures that a community chooses to preserve.\nIn Ceneri\, ash evokes both disappearance and permanence. It is what remains after the passage of time\, but it is also the material trace of a life that refuses to vanish completely. Water\, by contrast\, acts as an element of transition and transformation: it purifies\, accompanies\, blesses and allows the passage from one state to another. Together\, ash and water turn the scene into an ambiguous rite\, in which we do not know whether we are witnessing an expulsion\, a funeral or a gesture of collective love.\nDance\, word\, music and the force of the chorus transform the stage into a space of political and emotional confrontation. The warm-up does not prepare — it reveals: the tensions\, the suspicions\, the silences before the burst.\nAt the centre\, the ball. Weight\, promise\, threat. One against all. All against one. Crowd against solitude\, and a solitude that at times cries out louder than the crowd. SUMMARY:DÉSIR MIMÉTIQUE
DESCRIPTION:At the Fonderia\, mimetic desires in contemporary dance are explored.\nSaturday 28 November 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nSunday 29 October 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nDÉSIR MIMÉTIQUE is a playful investigation into choreographic composition curated by Jacopo Jenna. The title is a free reference to the concept of “mimetic desire” theorised by the French anthropologist René Girard\, who argued that human imitation lies at the root of many of the phenomena that characterise our behaviour. The project sets out to draw attention to the perception of certain elements linked to contemporary dance\, starting from the concept of imitation as a basic element for the embodiment of dance and for cultural transmission\, examining how particular kinds of information and qualities of movement are replicated or transferred from one person to another through a memetic process. \nWithin the workshop\, then\, a series of exercises is developed\, focused on listening to the body and on the search for movement. Through the relationship with a series of static images\, in which the body is represented in a particular form\, various attempts at a mimetic relationship are explored\, eliciting in the children different qualities of movement and physical representation. \nJacopo Jenna \nJacopo Jenna is a choreographer and director. His work investigates choreography as an extended practice\, through a research that engages both dance and video\, studying new possibilities for the embodiment of movement\, ranging across various languages and generating multiple performative contexts. A graduate in Sociology from the University of Urbino\, he developed his dance studies in the Netherlands at Codarts (Rotterdam Dance Academy). Launched in 2010\, the course is gaining full recognition in the European dance world and boasts collaborations with internationally renowned teachers and choreographers. \nFor the new evening of Made in Italy\, Agora Coaching Project will bring to the Fonderia stage choreographies by Mauro Bigonzetti and Roberto Tedesco. \nAGORA COACHING PROJECT \nAGORA COACHING PROJECT is a year-long dance advanced-training programme aimed at dancers between the ages of 18 and 22\, based in Reggio Emilia. Founded in 2010\, it is directed by Michele Merola and Enrico Morelli and is promoted and supported by the MM Contemporary Dance Company and the Centro Permanente Danza of Reggio Emilia. It sets out to train artists ready to approach the variety of the international dance market with flexibility — artists able to respond to the demands of different kinds\, technical and stylistic\, that come from this very market. The project aims to offer a wide range of stimuli — technical\, cultural and of exchange between students and choreographers\, each of whom comes from and works in different settings among the most compelling on the international scene. DESCRIPTION:La Réunion dances the work of Nikolais at the Fonderia.\nFriday 4 December 6.00 pm – open rehearsal \nSaturday 5 December 6.00 pm – performance \nBeyond Time and Space / La Réunion racconta Nikolais eludes precise classification and presents itself as a kind of happening — part performance\, part lecture\, part show. \nInspired by the tradition of the American masters and their work based on guided and personalised improvisations\, the project stems from the sharing of materials and working practices\, activated in real time and accompanied\, when necessary\, by repertoire videos and previously unseen materials. \nThe performance\, led and guided by journalist Donatella Bertozzi\, alternates moments of storytelling\, testimony and historical-artistic insight into Nikolais’s work. Their teachers were exceptional names in dance such as Alwin Nikolais\, Iréne Hultmann (Trisha Brown Dance Company)\, Louise Burns (Merce Cunningham Dance Company) and guests of the calibre of William Forsythe and Carolyn Carlson. \nIt was an experiment unique of its kind and never repeated since. The group studied various techniques of American Dance\, the Cunningham repertoire and the Trisha Brown repertoire\, but above all it experimented under the guidance of those masters or in independent sessions. \nThus a group took shape that wished to experiment with new artistic trends and that\, after that experience\, scattered across the world. \nIn 2024\, after 33 years\, 13 artists belonging to that original nucleus came together again spontaneously and\, as if picking up a conversation left unfinished\, resumed meeting in the rehearsal studio\, following their natural inclination for experimentation with dance and choreography.
