SUMMARY:YELED - SHOOT ME
DESCRIPTION:For the first time Aterballetto dances in Budapest. On stage YELED and SHOOT ME\, by the two young choreographers Eyal Dadon and Diego Tortelli. \nYELED\, a Hebrew word meaning “child\,” brings to the stage Israeli choreographer Eyal Dadon’s reflection\, together with Aterballetto dancers\, on the moment in life when we come to lose the innocence of children.\nSHOOT ME\, by our resident choreographer Diego Tortelli\, on the other hand\, is a frontal work that aims to put the dancers on stage and the audience in the stalls in a direct exchange relationship: a game of seduction\, of glances\, of sweat\, an assault on the senses and an ode to the body\, to breathing the same air\, sweat\, tears\, fury\, pride. \nThe performance is in the framework of the 10th International Theatre Olympics in partnership with Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Budapest. \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:MicroDanze - urban setting
DESCRIPTION:In the setting of the Musei Civici of Padua\, within the Prospettiva Danza Teatro Festival\, we present MicroDanze – urban setting: \n6 May 2023 – 15.30 / 16.30 / 17.30 \nMicroDanze\, in a route curated by Lara Guidetti\, are performed by young dancers from the advanced training courses Agora Coaching Project and Studio XL of Reggio Emilia. \nMicroDanze - urban setting \nMicroDanze is an ambitious project of “danced” performances. Conceived by Gigi Cristoforetti\, the project comes from an invitation by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani in Reggio Emilia to develop and explore different ways of enjoying dance performance. \nChoreographers – national and international – have conceived short pieces (six to eight minutes\, to be danced in a tiny space)\, which can be watched in succession as if one were visiting a museum. A project that escapes the dynamics of the stage\, the distance that separates the spectator from the performer\, creating a continuum between the onlooker and the watched\, soliciting an emotional and aesthetic experience as varied as it is original. \nSome MicroDanze have been the focus of a process ofreenactment: a transposition of the original versions for young dancers and public spaces aimed at creating an urban version.\n \nThe result is a project that creatively wanders between very different contexts – historical centres\, industrial areas\, residual spaces\, symbolic places in cities – defining unusual stages and creating radically new opportunities to meet the public. The guiding thread is research into dance as a form of living\, in relation to contemporary artistic practices that are rooted in the territory. \nIn Padua\, the route – curated by Lara Guidetti – passes through the Civic Museums allowing different experiences of space\, whose works sometimes resonate in the choreographies. An opportunity to experience a unique encounter with dance and visual art. \n  \nMicroDanze reenactment -Strôma di Giovanni Insaudo

SUMMARY:Struggle for the soul - Welcome to my funeral - OPEN REHEARSAL
DESCRIPTION:OPEN REHEARSAL\nThe increasingly interesting company Equilibrio Dinamico returns to the Fonderia with two new productions. \nStruggle for the Soul is the new creation by company director Roberta Ferrara. The choreography represents on stage the inner dissension present in each of us. \nWelcome to my funeral is the production by Brandon Lagaert\, an artist who has been collaborating for years with the internationally renowned dance theatre company Peeping Tom. The creation is also supported by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto. \n  \nStruggle for the Soul \nStudio\nChoreography: Roberta Ferrara\nDancers: Antonello Amati and Olivia Grassot \nThe study focuses on the ongoing battle between our fixed body and our eternal spirit. The performers seek peaceful coexistence as if there were two great wolves living inside each of them: one white\, the other black. \nIf they choose to feed them both\, they will never fight for each other’s attention and will be able to use each of them as needed. Since there will be no war between the two\, one will be able to listen to the deeper voice of one’s own consciousness. Two great forces within us co-exist and if we regard them with equal respect\, they will both be victorious and coexist in peace. \nA man who achieves inner peace has everything. A man who is torn apart by the war that is fought within him is nothing. I ask myself: how is this battle going for each of you? \nWelcome to my funeral \nChoreographer: Brandon Lagaert\nArtistic assistant: Sara Angelucci\nMusic: Felix Machtelinckx\nLight Designer: Alessandro Caso\nCostumes: Franco Colamorea\nDancers: Alessandro Ottaviani\, Anabel Barotte Moreno\, Olivia Grassot\, Tonia Laterza \nOrganisation and executive production: Vincenzo Losito\nProduction assistant: Alessia Cofone\nProduction: Equilibrio Dinamico\nCo-production: Fondazione Fabbrica Europa per le arti contemporanee ETS\, ResExtensa/Centro di produzione della danza Porta d’Oriente SPA\nProduction support: Fondazione Nazionale della Danza/Aterballetto \nThe performance focuses on the increasingly blurred boundaries between the real and virtual worlds.\nDependence on technology has completely changed the way we interact with people and the real world around us. The virtual world is becoming more and more realistic thanks to haptic feedback\, artificial intelligence\, and algorithms that acquire information from people through their input. \nOlder generations claim to have grown up in a Jurassic era\, although even they would struggle without technology as simple as electricity. \nHow do you use technology to feed your ego?\nHow does one use technology to create unique bonds with others or manipulate strangers? \nEQUILIBRIO DINAMICO \nEquilibrio Dinamico\, founded in 2011 by its current artistic director Roberta Ferrara and now based in Bari\, has placed itself in the spotlight for being unique on the Italian dance scene.\nRight from the start\, in fact\, Roberta Ferrara aimed to build a contemporary repertoire company with an international scope by calling upon several choreographers to create world premieres. Jiří Pokorný\, Igor Kirov\, Matthias Kass & Clément Bugnon\, Marco Blázquez\, Riccardo Buscarini\, and Aida Vainieri are just a few of the signatures that have followed to compose the cahier de danse. \nIn addition to celebrating its tenth anniversary\, in 2021 Equilibrio Dinamico Dance Company was recognised by the Ministry of Culture as a Production Body for Under35 Dance\, the only organisation in the Region of Puglia\, and in May 2022 it will be presented in the context of the NID-New Italian Dance Platform in Salerno\, the platform that brings together the best of Italian dance to be exported abroad. \nEquilibrio Dinamico is annually programmed in seasons and festivals in Europe\, America and Asia. In addition\, Equilibrio Dinamico develops collateral projects for the training and promotion of the public by creating a close collaboration with the promotion body Teatro Pubblico Pugliese. \nequilibriodinamico.org \nINFO&TICKETS \nTICKETS \nFull price: 3 euro\nFree under 6 \nPURCHASING TICKETS \nTickets can be purchased online at www.biglietteriafonderia39.it. \nThe ticket office service at the Fonderia is open from 5.30 pm. \nTickets are not numbered. \nCONTACTS \nMobile and whatsapp 3341023554 \nEmail biglietteria@aterballetto.it

DESCRIPTION:EVENT WITHIN FESTIVAL INTERNAZIONALE KIDS\n \n/ New performance for families with a dancer and a singer / \nThe magical virtuosity of Toti Scialoja (1914-1998)\, a master not only of images but also of words\, is at the heart of this new creation for children\, young boys and girls signed by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza/Aterballetto. The protagonists are dancer Vittoria Franchina and baritone Piersilvio De Santis. \nThe almost magical vibrations that spring from Scialoja’s poems are like the infinite rings that are created at the surface of the water when a stone is thrown: evocative of unreal or hyperreal images\, bearers of a musicality that mixes poetry and nursery rhyme\, they make the extraordinary and the frightening go together. \nSotto un cespo di rose scarlatte\nOffre il rospo tè caldo con latte\nSotto un cespo di rose paonazze\nTocca al rospo sciacquare le tazze.\n(Toti Scialoja\, La mela di Amleto\, 1984) \n  \nCREDITS \nDirection and choreography: Francesca Lattuada\nTexts: Toti Scialoja (from La mela di Amleto)\nMusic: The Klezmorin\, Gustav Mahler\, Dean Martin\, Clara Rockmore\nMasks and objects: Natali Fortier\nPerformer: Vittoria Franchina\, Piersilvio De Santis \nCoproduction: Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto and Centro Teatrale Bresciano\nIn coproduction with Centro Servizi Culturali Santa Chiara \nINFO & TICKETS \nTICKETS\nFree admission upon availability. DESCRIPTION:YELED and SHOOT ME\, by the two young choreographers Eyal Dadon and Diego Tortelli\, arrive at Teatro Comunale di Modena. \n  \n\n  \n  \n  \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Corpi Violati #DJOperaNoir
DESCRIPTION:In CorpiViolati Monica Casadei follows up her investigation on the theme of violence against women\, begun several years ago with the transposition into dance of some famous feminicides from Italian and other melodramas.\nIn CorpiViolati\, a community of bodies\, both female and male\, swarms\, locked in the memory of a wound. This wound echoes on stage in an incessant dance nourished by impulses\, instincts\, anger and pain\, in which overwhelming group dances are interspersed with duets and solos. \n\nCREDITS \nchoreography\, direction\, set design\, lighting and costumes: Monica Casadei\nLive Electronic: Fabio Fiandrini\nChoreographer’s assistant: Alessandra Pizza\nCostume design: Elena Nunziata \nProduction Compagnia Artemis Danza\nCoproduction Festival di Danza Contemporanea – Teatro Comunale di Ferrara\nIn partnership with Comune di Rimini – Teatro Galli\n \nWith the support of Ministero della Cultura\, Regione Emilia-Romagna\, Comune di Parma\n \nSynopsis \n«Giammai Carmen cederà! Libera è nata e libera morirà!». «Sempre libera degg’io».\nThey are the ode to freedom of Carmen\, the protagonist of Prosper Mérimée’s novella and Georges Bizet’s opera\, and Violetta Valéry in Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata. Women figures who are symbols of independence of thought\, of strength and courage and at the same time of fragility in the face of violence and prevarication. Their freedom\, as in so many other cases\, is punished\, violated\, with tragic results. Inspired by the many stories of gender violence recounted in literature and melodrama\, only a small number compared to the infinite number of stories in the daily news\, the project “Corpi violati” (Violated Bodies) by the Compagnia Artemis Danza\, founded and directed by Monica Casadei.\nThe choreographic project was born from the desire to bring attention to the theme of violence against women\, and from Artemis Danza’s long-standing collaboration with the Anti-Violence Centres of the D.I.Re Network (Women in the Network against Violence). \nCOMPAGNIA ARTEMIS DANZA \nBorn in Ferrara and graduated with honours with a thesis on Plato and dance\, Monica Casadei\, after a competitive career in rhythmic gymnastics\, devoted herself to the study of classical and modern dance\, first in Italy\, then in London\, and finally in Paris\, where she met choreographers Pierre Doussaint and Isabelle Doubouloz and master André Cognard Hanshi So shihan\, with whom she still practices the martial art of Aikido. He founded the company Artemis Danza in France\, with which he moved to Italy in 1997\, giving life to an intense production activity that counts\, to date\, over forty original creations. From 1998 to 2007 the company was in residence at the Fondazione Teatro Due in Parma\, while since 2014 it has been in artistic residence at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. Artemis Danza has been invited to the most important Italian theatres and festivals and to numerous international tours and festivals. \nFundamental to Monica Casadei’s artistic research is the contamination with different artistic\, cultural and geographic territories\, as well as the exploration of places and urban spaces that become the stage for performative actions. \nAlongside its production activity\, Artemis supports\, produces and promotes young authors and carries out multiple activities to educate the public. \nartemisdanza.com \nINFO & TICKETS \nTICKETS \nFull price: 10 euro\nReduced price under 30\, dance schools\, Liceo Coreutico Matilde di Canossa\, over 65\, CRAL members Municipality of Reggio Emilia: 6 euro\nReduced price under 8: 3 euro \nPURCHASING TICKETS \nTickets can be purchased online at www.biglietteriafonderia39.it. \nThe ticket office service at the Foundry is open from 8 pm. \nTickets are not numbered. \nCONTACTS \nMobile and whatsapp 3341023554 \nEmail biglietteria@aterballetto.it

SUMMARY:Made in Italy 29.0
DESCRIPTION:The protagonists of the evening are the dancers of the Agora Coaching Project\, an advanced training project promoted and supported by the MM Contemporary Dance Company and A.S.D Progetto Danza of Reggio Emilia under the artistic direction of Michele Merola and Enrico Morelli. Started in 2010\, the course is gaining full recognition in the European dance world and boasts collaborations with internationally renowned teachers and choreographers. \nOn stage Made in Italy 29.0 with choreographies by Enrico Morelli and Ivan Alboresi. \nAGORA COACHING PROJECT\nAGORA COACHING PROJECT is a two-year dance training project for dancers between the ages of 16 and 22. Agora aims to train artists ready to flexibly face the variety of the international dance market\, artists capable of responding to the different technical/stylistic demands coming from this same market. \nThe aim is to provide a solid basis for learning the various techniques in use on the international contemporary dance scene and the different repertoires through the alternation of qualified teachers and artists by bringing to the stage the works created by guest choreographers. The course aims to offer a wide range of stimuli\, technical\, cultural and exchange between students and choreographers\, each of whom comes from and works in different realities among the most interesting on the international scene. Agora brings dancers together with established choreographers and directors of prestigious companies\, thus giving students the opportunity to obtain work contracts; Agora thus represents an active and effective bridge between training and the world of work\, having built a network of collaborations with numerous European companies over the years. Many Agora students are currently working in these prestigious ensembles. \nArtistic direction: Michele Merola and Enrico Morelli \nDancers: Camilla Aiazzi\, Corrado Azzollini\, Beatrice Ballarò\, Erica Barusco\, Gaia Belli\, Marek Brafa\, Anna Dal Maso\, Laura Dell’Agnese\, Sally Demonte\, Pietro Di Salvo\, Vittoria Facci\, Chiara Gionti\, Luca Guerrieri\, Sofia Lacava\, Carlotta Lo Piano\, Erika Loprieno\, Giulia Lusetti\, Gioele Marcante\, Carlotta Maucioni\, Marta Monaci\, Federico Musumeci\, Carmine Olivazzi\, Martina Pagliari\, Martina Procacci\, Emily Rondanini\,Susanna Russing\, Alessia Russo\, Alessio Saccheri\, Viviana Sanfilippo\, Sara Scarponi\, Micol Scotto\, Diletta Suman\, Giorgia Talami\, Gennaro Todisco\,Diletta Torelli \nDIMORA DELL'ANIMA \nChoreography Ivan Alboresi\nMusic Davidson Jaconello\, Travis Lake\, Joep Beving\nCostumes Nuvia Valestri \nIvan Alboresi’s new choreography for Agora Coaching Project is developed on the ‘breathing’ of bodies and on the attention to touching and caring for the other. The study made with the young dancers of the course is understood as an act of connection between the choreographer’s poetics of movement and the outcome of the transmission on the different bodies of the performers. \nThrough the exchange of energy and mutual support\, choreographic actions based on the interplay of mutual support between bodies and souls\, proximity and absence\, are constructed. In creating the choreographic score\, the starting point was memory and the desire to return the gesture of supporting the other\, thinking of the body as an infinite\, inexhaustible source of memories\, fragility and compassion. The performers establish a visible dialogue between their physical strengths and the importance of their gazes and their sensitive touch\, changing the perspective of seeking each other out. The audience\, freely observing the choreographic action\, crosses and crosses musical and choreographic suggestions\, developing a perceptive and subjective reading. \nTHE RITE OF SPRING (2011) \nChoreography Enrico Morelli\nMusic Igor Stravinsky\nCostumes Nuvia Valestri\nChoreography Assistant Annalisa Perricone \nOn 29 May 2013\, Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps turned one hundred years old and the entire dance world remembered and celebrated this event. After the scandal it caused at its debut\, with the first version of the choreography\, created in Paris by Vaslav Nijinsky for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes\, the score has become well known\, and recognisable at the first beat. Le Sacre is inspired by an ancient Slavic legend\, according to which every spring a virgin had to be ritually sacrificed so that the earth could flourish again. \nIn his interpretation of Le Sacre\, Morelli approaches this score with profound respect.\nIn the resulting staging\, a facet of the frantic dynamism of our time is reflected. To combat old and new fears\, and to exorcise the evil of living that accompanies the present\, every opportunity is good to find a scapegoat.\nIn Enrico Morelli’s directorial choice\, on the bare stage\, as the only element\, lugubrious slaughterhouse hooks emerge from the darkness and loom from the ceiling. They are as many swords of Damocles\, a stern warning inviting us to look back to the past\, to the times of terror and death when so many men were sent to the slaughterhouse\, considered ‘numbers’ without identity or dignity. \nThe assumption of the choreography is all here: as long as human beings sacrifice their fellow human beings to the violence of blind cannibalism\, and do not choose the path of respect for others\, the light of culture and the clarity of reason will not prevail. Then\, forever and ever\, each individual will only be able to think and want the evil of others\, to eliminate anyone who stands in the way of the fulfilment of his desires. Everyone will have in his neighbour an enemy. From this will result war of all against all\, with no more right or wrong. Thus the animal man will be condemned to remain Homo homini lupus. \nINFO & TICKETS \nTICKETS\nFull price: 10 euro\nReduced price under 30\, dance schools\, Liceo Coreutico Matilde di Canossa\, over 65\, CRAL members Municipality of Reggio Emilia: 6 euro\nReduced price under 8: 3 euro \nPURCHASING TICKETS \nTickets can be purchased online at www.biglietteriafonderia39.it. \nThe ticket office service at the Fonderia is open from 8 pm. \nTickets are not numbered. \nCONTACTS \nMobile and whatsapp 3341023554 \nEmail biglietteria@aterballetto.it \n\n

SUMMARY:STORIE
DESCRIPTION:Aterballetto performs Storie in Abano Terme. \nStorie is a small anthology of danced fragments. They constitute only an infinitesimal part of the very rich artistic and human universe of the two choreographers Diego Tortelli and Philippe Kratz. \nTortelli creates two pieces: Preludio\, opening the evening\, is a love letter to the body for five dancers on the music of Nick Cave\, Another story is a duet on the impossible gesture of 2020\, the embrace. Between past and future are Kratz’s two creations. The “O” duo offers us two bodies/robots\, forcing us to question how the meaning of physical contact might change: will it remain emotional and felt\, or will it become serial and alienated?\nAlpha Grace\, a six-step in the evening’s conclusion\, is a reflection on empathy\, a form of gentle communication between people who feel on the same plane. It too is challenged by the present times. \n

SUMMARY:STORIE
DESCRIPTION:Aterballetto performs Storie at Armonie d’Arte Festival in Borgia\, near Catanzaro. \n\nStorie is a small anthology of danced fragments. \n

SUMMARY:DON JUAN
DESCRIPTION:At the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata Aterballetto dances Don Juan\, the full evening signed by Johan Inger. \nFor the Macerata Opera Festival the company will dance with the live music played by FORM-Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana and directed by the baton of Manuel Coves. \nThe choreography stems from Inger’s desire to confront Don Juan\, an ancient and still contemporary paradigmatic myth. The original play by Tirso de Molina\, Molière\, Bertold Brecht and the play by Suzanne Lilar are just some of the sources of inspiration: Inger and playwright Gregor Acuña-Pohl were able to consult twenty-five different texts inspired by the character. \nIn the creation we find all the characters in the story\, from Donna Elvira to Donna Anna to Zerlina and Masetto. Don Juan can be considered a Kammerspiel\, with its ability to emphasize nuances and emotions: and in the case of this creation\, dance becomes a magnifying glass for the individual characters\, and subtly but clearly reveals the inner worlds of the men and women on stage. \nDanza&Danza ‘Best Production’ Award 2020

SUMMARY:Callas\, Callas\, Callas - open rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:OPEN REHEARSAL\nThe Fonderia’s 2023/24 season opens with CALLAS CALLAS CALLAS\, the new production by COB Compagnia Opus Ballet. \nThe evening pays homage to the great singer by bringing together for the first time three of the most interesting names in Italian auteur choreography\, Adriano Bolognino\, Carlo Massari and Roberto Tedesco (a former dancer of Aterballetto)\, in a contemporary and innovative interpretation of one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century. \nEach choreographer brings to the stage a different aspect of the life and work of Maria Callas in a true “choreographic triptych”\, an unprecedented fresco in which biographical elements\, musical inspirations and iconography merge with contemporary dance in the creation of an original language. \nThe project ideally continues the artistic research path that the company has been pursuing for years and that sees contemporary dance dialoguing with classical stories and music\, considered “repertoire” that become fertile ground for the creation of something completely different. The classic becomes a key to the contemporary world\, with the aim of deconstructing and enriching the repertoire to speak of a lived reality\, tangible\, close to us. \nThe performance is on Wednesday 4 October at 8.30 p.m. \nCredits \nCALLAS\, CALLAS\, CALLAS\nChoreographies by Adriano Bolognino\, Carlo Massari and Roberto Tedesco\nA production COB Compagnia Opus Ballet\nIn co-production with Fondazione Festival La Versiliana \nArtistic direction Rosanna Brocanello\nArtistic advisor Laura Pulin\nLight designer Giacomo Ungari\nRepetiteur Giulia Orlando\nManagement Margherita Fantoni\nDiffusion Laura Montagna \nItalian premiere 12 July 2023\, Teatro “La Versiliana” (Marina di Pietrasanta) \n***\n/DIVINA \nChoreography Adriano Bolognino\nPerformers Giuliana Bonaffini\, Aura Calarco\, Sofia Galvan\, Ginevra Gioli\, Gaia Mondini\nChoreography Assistant Rosaria Di Maro\nMusic Vito Pizzo\nCostumes by Tns Brand \n/STANDPOINTS\nChoreography Roberto Tedesco\nPerformers Matheus Alves De Oliveira\, Giuliana Bonaffini\, Aura Calarco\, Emiliano Candiago\, Ginevra Gioli\, Gaia Mondini\, Riccardo Papa\, Frederic Zoungla\nMusic Giuseppe Villarosa\nCostumes by Opificio della Moda e del Costume \n/TOUJOURS LA MORT\nOriginal creation Carlo Massari\nPerformers Matheus Alves De Oliveira\, Aura Calarco\, Emiliano Candiago\, Riccardo Papa\, Frederic Zoungla\nMusical editing Luca Martone\nSupporting the making of costumes Giovanna Ficaccio \n*** \nRunning time 75′\nA 6-minute break is scheduled among the choreographies. \nCallas\, Callas\, Callas \nGifted with ‘three voices’\, it was said\, for her exceptional vocal range. And again: talented as a ‘dramatic soprano of agility’\, a 19th century description for her unique timbre. A charismatic woman and artist\, her voice was powerful and theatrical thanks to her technique and ability to fuse singing and acting\, capable of ardent and engaging interpretations in embodying seductive and tragic female characters. Her name is engraved in the history of melodrama. And not only. Art and style\, triumphs and acclaim\, worldliness and private affairs have intertwined in the life of Maria Callas\, ‘La Divina’. We also remember her diva outbursts\, the mystery of her drastic weight loss\, her chronic insomnia\, the son she never had\, her friendship with Pasolini and\, above all\, her inauspicious love affair with the shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis\, who left his wife for her\, only to abandon her and marry Jackie Kennedy. Callas died\, suffering and alone\, in her Paris flat on 16 September 1977\, from causes not yet ascertained. In the centenary year of her birth\, amidst already celebrated tributes and others in progress\, that of the COB Compagnia Opus Ballet directed by Rosanna Brocanello\, has a particular value also for the originality that inspired it: entrusting three young\, and already established\, choreographers with a contemporary language\, with a creation for one evening\, reflecting their personal vision of the legendary artist\, without\, however\, wishing to describe her. Three different points of view\, therefore\, three approaches and restitutions in dance that the beautiful title Callas\, Callas\, Callas already highlights. A title that is also an invitation\, for the spectator\, to discover or rediscover through the folds of a movement or the ensemble chorus\, through the electronic sounds or the fragments of famous arias disseminated in the choreographic architecture\, through a light or a costume that shapes gestures and postures\, one’s own Callas. Or perhaps another\, unprecedented one that abstract dance can suggest\, evoke\, imprint in the atmosphere and memory. We will certainly recognise\, contaminated or barely revealed\, three famous arias: from Tosca\, Norma\, Carmen. \nSTANDPOINTS by Roberto Tedesco (ph. Paolo Bonciani) \n\nRoberto Tedesco blends the notes of Vissi d’arte on the electronic musical score composed by Giuseppe Villarosa\, within which he also mixes excerpts from interviews and interference of voices. In the words of the famous aria\, extrapolated from Tosca\, the Calabrian choreographer pinpoints the moment when Callas is on the point of death\, and wants to reiterate to everyone that she lived profoundly of art and love\, being simply a person\, a woman\, before being considered a diva. It is above all in the sound structure that the choreographer imprints his vision of Callas’s life\, as if to predispose the spectator – quoting George Balanchine – to “see the music and hear the dance”. Tedesco interweaves an imaginary dramaturgy with a musical journey\, almost chronological\, from the years in New York\, where Callas was born\, to her Greek origins; from Italy\, which\, with the Teatro alla Scala\, gave her her greatest success\, to France\, where she retired for good. Vague jazz sounds at first recall America\, then those of the Bouzouki to Greece\, and a piece of light music from the 1970s to the mood of suffering that accompanied her. Over a rising\, almost techno rhythm\, a choral dance grafts the bodies – male and female\, a single entity -\, clad in stylised red corsets and black masks in the shape of abatjours.\nAn aesthetic that harks back to the theatrical costumes of opera\, and to that world of fashion of which Callas\, inspiring many designers\, was also an icon. \nDIVINA by Adriano Bolognino (ph. Paolo Bonciani) \nThe Neapolitan choreographer Adriano Bolognino – a lover of all that is part of that glamorous universe – emphasises this fashionable divism in his creation\, emphasising his ‘Callas imagery’ also in terms of aesthetics\, combined with the strength\, rigour and whimsy of dance.\nSpeed and rhythm characterise his language. It is embodied by the five dancers with a combative gesturality that underlies certain references from the soprano’s life: her singing\, her Greek roots\, her failed motherhood\, her tormented love affair. Always on stage\, the quintet plays between softness and broken movements\, rhythms and pauses\, to the introductory music composed by Vito Pizzo\, which acts as a prelude to flow and close with Casta diva (from a recording by the Opéra de Paris). \nTOUJOURS LA MORT by Carlo Massari (ph. Paolo Bonciani) \nCarlo Massari\, on the other hand\, does not engage with any particular sound contaminations in his creative journey through the Callas universe. With a dramaturgy linked to an even ironic component that impacts with the sound dimension\, what envelops the ether is\, after listening on a loop\, the recognisable voice of the singer in the famous Habanera from Carmen – the simple bolero of the costumes recalls Bizet’s opera – and further on the Aria delle carte\, when the playing cards predict to the gypsy woman the approach of death. And it is this vision that allows Massari’s choreography\, with Callas who\, in her physical perishing\, lives knowing the end that awaits her. The applause we hear at the beginning accompanies her as she retraces the thread of her existence\, until she leaves us with the memory of her sublime voice\, of the immortal artist. “There is no movement if there is no thought and there is no thought if there is no sense” is the assumption that has always animated Massari’s work. In line with his own modality that crosses and combines the different languages of the performing arts – theatre\, dance\, music -\, the Bolognese choreographer stages the protagonist accompanied by ‘black souls’\, a sort of coloured spirits – the colours of the voice – that follow and support her in her last breath of life. \nEverything contributes\, in the three creations\, to the spectator’s reading of the scenic event\, who is thus urged to find his own Callas\, to identify his own myth. \nby Giuseppe Distefano \nCOB COMPAGNIA OPUS BALLET \nDirected by Rosanna Brocanello since its foundation\, the company is made up of a stable core of professional dancers and to date has produced a vast repertoire of productions. SUMMARY:Callas\, Callas\, Callas
DESCRIPTION:The 2023/24 season at the Fonderia opens with CALLAS CALLAS CALLAS\, the new production by COB Compagnia Opus Ballet. \nThe evening pays tribute to the great singer by bringing together for the first time three of the most interesting names in Italian contemporary choreography\, Adriano Bolognino\, Carlo Massari\, and Roberto Tedesco (former dancer of Aterballetto)\, in a contemporary and innovative interpretation of one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century. \nEach choreographer brings to the stage a different aspect of Maria Callas’s life and work in a true “choreographic triptych”\, an unprecedented fresco in which biographical elements\, musical inspirations\, and iconography merge with contemporary dance to create a new language. \nThe project ideally continues the artistic research path that the company has been pursuing for years\, engaging contemporary dance with classical stories and music\, considered “repertoire” that becomes fertile ground for the creation of something completely different. The classical becomes a lens for viewing the contemporary world\, with the aim of deconstructing and enriching the repertoire to speak about a lived\, tangible reality that is close to us. \nCredits\n“`html \nCALLAS CALLAS CALLAS\nCoreography by Adriano Bolognino\, Carlo Massari\, and Roberto Tedesco\nA production by COB Compagnia Opus Ballet\nIn coproduction with Fondazione Festival La Versiliana \nArtistic Direction Rosanna Brocanello\nArtistic Consultant Laura Pulin\nLight Designer Giacomo Ungari\nRepetiteur Giulia Orlando\nOrganization Margherita Fantoni\nDistribution Laura Montagna \nWorld Premiere July 12\, 2023\, Teatro “La Versiliana” (Marina di Pietrasanta) \n\n/DIVINA \nChoreography Adriano Bolognino\nPerformers Giuliana Bonaffini\, Aura Calarco\, Sofia Galvan\, Ginevra Gioli\, Gaia Mondini\nChoreography Assistant Rosaria Di Maro\nMusic by Vito Pizzo\nCostumes by Tns Brand \n/STANDPOINTS\nChoreography Roberto Tedesco\nPerformers Matheus Alves De Oliveira\, Giuliana Bonaffini\, Aura Calarco\, Emiliano Candiago\, Ginevra Gioli\, Gaia Mondini\, Riccardo Papa\, Frederic Zoungla\nMusic by Giuseppe Villarosa\nCostumes by Opificio della Moda e del Costume \n/TOUJOURS LA MORT\nOriginal Creation by Carlo Massari\nPerformers Matheus Alves De Oliveira\, Aura Calarco\, Emiliano Candiago\, Riccardo Papa\, Frederic Zoungla\nMusic Editing by Luca Martone\nSupport for Stage Outfits Giovanna Ficaccio \n\nTotal Duration: 75 minutes\nA 6-minute intermission is included between the choreographies\n“` \nCallas\, Callas\, Callas \nMaria Callas\, “The Divine”\, was endowed with “three voices\,” it was said\, due to her exceptional vocal range. Described as having the talent of a “dramatic coloratura soprano\,” an 19th-century term for her unique timbre. A charismatic woman and artist\, possessing a powerful and theatrical voice\, she was skilled in blending singing and acting\, capable of fiery and engaging interpretations in embodying both seductive and tragic female characters. Her name is engraved in the history of opera. And beyond. Art and style\, triumphs and acclaim\, glamour and personal affairs intertwined in the life of Maria Callas\, “The Divine”. She is also remembered for her diva tantrums\, the mystery of her drastic weight loss\, chronic insomnia\, the child she never had\, her friendship with Pasolini\, and\, above all\, her ill-fated liaison with shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis\, who left his wife for her\, only to abandon her and marry Jackie Kennedy. Callas died\, suffering and alone\, in her Paris apartment on September 16\, 1977\, for causes not yet determined. On the centenary of her birth\, amidst tributes already celebrated and others underway\, that of the COB Compagnia Opus Ballet directed by Rosanna Brocanello\, holds a particular significance also for the originality that inspired it: entrusting three young\, and already established\, contemporary choreographers to create an evening production that reflects their personal vision of the legendary artist\, without intending to recount her life story. Surely\, three famous arias will be recognized\, whether subtly hinted or prominently displayed: from Tosca\, Norma\, and Carmen. \n\n STANDPOINTS by Roberto Tedesco (ph. In the famous aria’s lyrics\, extracted from Tosca\, the Calabrian choreographer identifies the moment when Callas is at death’s door\, wanting to reaffirm to everyone that she lived deeply for art and love as simply a person\, a woman\, before being considered a diva. It is mainly in the sound structure that the choreographer imbues his vision of Callas’s life\, almost wanting to prepare the audience – quoting George Balanchine – to “see the music and listen to the dance.” Tedesco weaves an imaginary dramaturgy with an almost chronological musical journey\, from the years in New York where Callas was born\, to her Greek origins; from Italy\, which\, with La Scala Theatre\, brought her the greatest success\, to France where she eventually retired. Vague jazz sounds initially allude to America\, then those of the Bouzouki to Greece\, and a 1970s pop song to the mood of suffering that accompanied her.
