DESCRIPTION:UnterWasser’s “boxed” micro-performances arrive at the Fonderia\nSaturday 14 and Sunday 15 November at 3.00 pm and 7.30 pm \n BOXES is a work of visual theatre and an installation made up of “boxes” that hold micro-performances and interactive games\, to be experienced by one viewer at a time. \nThe audience is invited into an intimate\, personal and dedicated experience. Although not live\, the project makes it possible to meet the choreographers through their works\, to begin a journey of learning and to discover how dance and choreography have evolved and questioned their own history\, profoundly changing the use of the body and its relationship with movement. \nThe idea is to bring children closer not only to the individual works\, but also to the context in which they were created\, to the processes that made them possible\, and to the exercises and studies that the artists developed to build their own path and through which they contributed to the evolution of the live arts. For the autumn season of Danza in Fonderia\, the choreographer in focus will be William Forsythe. \nAnnika Pannitto \nAnnika Pannitto (Italy\, 1981) is a choreographer\, dancer and researcher in the field of contemporary choreography. For fifteen years she has also devoted herself to teaching in a variety of contexts\, with students of all ages and levels. She qualified as a teacher and dancer at the National Academy of Dance in Rome\, and as a choreographer in the Master of Choreography at the ArtEZ art institute in the Netherlands. Her works have been hosted in various European contexts\, such as the Schouwburg theatre in Rotterdam\, the Atelier Re.Al in Lisbon\, the Diskurs Festival in Giessen and the Centro Danza Canal in Madrid. DESCRIPTION:Choreographic encounters for the Danza in Fonderia season.\nFrom Monday 16 to Friday 20 November 4.30 pm \nSaturday 21 November 10.30 am \nMeet the coreographer! is an educational project curated by Annika Pannitto for children aged 7 and over. The workshop unfolds across a series of encounters with some of the choreographers who have marked the evolution of dance over the past sixty years and have proposed an expansion of its traditional meaning. \nThe title takes its cue from the expression Meet the Artist\, which usually denotes the moment when the artist is invited to talk with the audience to share the process behind a performance. Although not live\, the project makes it possible to meet the choreographers through their works\, to begin a journey of learning and to discover how dance and choreography have evolved and questioned their own history\, profoundly changing the use of the body and its relationship with movement. \nThe idea is to bring children closer not only to the individual works\, but also to the context in which they were created\, to the processes that made them possible\, and to the exercises and studies that the artists developed to build their own path and through which they contributed to the evolution of the live arts. DESCRIPTION:At the Fonderia\, mimetic desires in contemporary dance are explored.\nSaturday 28 November 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nSunday 29 October 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nDÉSIR MIMÉTIQUE is a playful investigation into choreographic composition curated by Jacopo Jenna. The title is a free reference to the concept of “mimetic desire” theorised by the French anthropologist René Girard\, who argued that human imitation lies at the root of many of the phenomena that characterise our behaviour. The project sets out to draw attention to the perception of certain elements linked to contemporary dance\, starting from the concept of imitation as a basic element for the embodiment of dance and for cultural transmission\, examining how particular kinds of information and qualities of movement are replicated or transferred from one person to another through a memetic process. \nWithin the workshop\, then\, a series of exercises is developed\, focused on listening to the body and on the search for movement. Through the relationship with a series of static images\, in which the body is represented in a particular form\, various attempts at a mimetic relationship are explored\, eliciting in the children different qualities of movement and physical representation. \nJacopo Jenna \nJacopo Jenna is a choreographer and director. His work investigates choreography as an extended practice\, through a research that engages both dance and video\, studying new possibilities for the embodiment of movement\, ranging across various languages and generating multiple performative contexts. A graduate in Sociology from the University of Urbino\, he developed his dance studies in the Netherlands at Codarts (Rotterdam Dance Academy). DESCRIPTION:Andrea Costanzo Martini investigates through dance the condition of the contemporary performer.\nSaturday 28 and Sunday 29 November 8.30 pm \nPas de Cheval is a duet choreographed by Andrea Costanzo Martini and performed together with Francesca Foscarini\, conceived for two performers who are no longer in their early youth. Starting from the figure of the horse\, a symbol of grace\, strength and freedom\, the work explores the parallel between the animal and the dancer-performer: creatures that are admired and\, at the same time\, subjected to toil\, discipline and dynamics of power. \n On stage\, the two performers move in silence\, embodying trained horses\, while a soundscape made up of recorded voices accompanies their bodies. He began his training at Danzicherie in Cuneo and the Teatro Nuovo in Turin\, before continuing his classical dance studies at the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung Ballet Academy in Munich. At 19 he moved to Germany\, and in 2004 he began his professional career at the Aalto Staats-Theater in Essen. \nIn 2006 he joined the Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv\, where he danced in the works of Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal\, also teaching Gaga and developing his first choreographies through the Dancers Create project. He then danced with the Cullberg Ballet (2008–2010)\, performing works by Benoît Lachambre\, Alexander Ekman\, Crystal Pite\, Jefta van Dinther and Tillman O’Donnell\, and created his first piece\, For Men Only. In 2012 he returned to Israel\, joining the company of Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak\, and began to focus on his own choreographic research. \nSince 2013\, Andrea Costanzo Martini has created and performed his works internationally. Among his best-known pieces: What Happened in Torino (2013\, First Prize at the Stuttgart Solo Dance Competition)\, SCARABEO (Aerowaves 2018)\, PayPer Play (2021) and Mood Shifters (2021). DESCRIPTION:At the Fonderia\, mimetic desires in contemporary dance are explored.\nSaturday 28 November 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nSunday 29 October 3.00 pm and 5.00 pm \nDÉSIR MIMÉTIQUE is a playful investigation into choreographic composition curated by Jacopo Jenna. The title is a free reference to the concept of “mimetic desire” theorised by the French anthropologist René Girard\, who argued that human imitation lies at the root of many of the phenomena that characterise our behaviour. The project sets out to draw attention to the perception of certain elements linked to contemporary dance\, starting from the concept of imitation as a basic element for the embodiment of dance and for cultural transmission\, examining how particular kinds of information and qualities of movement are replicated or transferred from one person to another through a memetic process. \nWithin the workshop\, then\, a series of exercises is developed\, focused on listening to the body and on the search for movement. Their teachers were exceptional names in dance such as Alwin Nikolais\, Iréne Hultmann (Trisha Brown Dance Company)\, Louise Burns (Merce Cunningham Dance Company) and guests of the calibre of William Forsythe and Carolyn Carlson. \nIt was an experiment unique of its kind and never repeated since. The group studied various techniques of American Dance\, the Cunningham repertoire and the Trisha Brown repertoire\, but above all it experimented under the guidance of those masters or in independent sessions. \nThus a group took shape that wished to experiment with new artistic trends and that\, after that experience\, scattered across the world. \nIn 2024\, after 33 years\, 13 artists belonging to that original nucleus came together again spontaneously and\, as if picking up a conversation left unfinished\, resumed meeting in the rehearsal studio\, following their natural inclination for experimentation with dance and choreography. DESCRIPTION:La Réunion dances the work of Nikolais at the Fonderia.\nFriday 4 December 6.00 pm – open rehearsal \nSaturday 5 December 6.00 pm – performance \nBeyond Time and Space / La Réunion racconta Nikolais eludes precise classification and presents itself as a kind of happening — part performance\, part lecture\, part show. \nInspired by the tradition of the American masters and their work based on guided and personalised improvisations\, the project stems from the sharing of materials and working practices\, activated in real time and accompanied\, when necessary\, by repertoire videos and previously unseen materials. \nThe performance\, led and guided by journalist Donatella Bertozzi\, alternates moments of storytelling\, testimony and historical-artistic insight into Nikolais’s work. Their teachers were exceptional names in dance such as Alwin Nikolais\, Iréne Hultmann (Trisha Brown Dance Company)\, Louise Burns (Merce Cunningham Dance Company) and guests of the calibre of William Forsythe and Carolyn Carlson. \nIt was an experiment unique of its kind and never repeated since. The group studied various techniques of American Dance\, the Cunningham repertoire and the Trisha Brown repertoire\, but above all it experimented under the guidance of those masters or in independent sessions. \nThus a group took shape that wished to experiment with new artistic trends and that\, after that experience\, scattered across the world. \nIn 2024\, after 33 years\, 13 artists belonging to that original nucleus came together again spontaneously and\, as if picking up a conversation left unfinished\, resumed meeting in the rehearsal studio\, following their natural inclination for experimentation with dance and choreography.
