VISIONI DEL CORPO: LE DONNE DELLA FOTOGRAFIA CONTEMPORANEA (WOMEN IN CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY)

Women’s photography is the focus of the new Visioni del corpo event — discovering contemporary art through signature dance.

Thanks to the curatorial collaboration of Nicolas Ballario (listed among the 100 most influential figures in the art world by Il Giornale dell’Arte), the “dancing encyclopedia” continues to take shape — a project that tells the story of the world through dance, placing the body at the center of the human experience.

For the festival Anthologies. New Readings of the Body, Nicolas Ballario has chosen to present the photographic works of Tina Modotti, Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, and Lisetta Carmi, accompanied by original choreographies created for the occasion by Sofia Nappi, one of the most acclaimed Italian choreographers on the contemporary scene.

APERITIF AT THE FONDERIA
From 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., enjoy a tasting of local wines and products, in collaboration with Coldiretti Reggio Emilia.

Sofia Nappi is a choreographer and the artistic director of KOMOCO, a contemporary dance company based in Italy and active internationally, which she co-founded together with her first muses, Adriano Popolo Rubbio and Paolo Piancastelli. From the outset, Sofia’s early creations with KOMOCO earned major recognition, including the Partner Introdans Award (Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition 2021) and the First Prize, Critics’ Award, and Production Award at the 35th International Choreography Competition Hannover, presented by the Tanja Liedtke Foundation and Marco Goecke (2021).

Today, KOMOCO’s works choreographed by Sofia are performed throughout Italy and internationally across Europe, as well as in Mexico, Canada, and Serbia, featured in renowned institutions and festivals. As an independent choreographer, Sofia also creates original works for internationally acclaimed dance companies and theatres such as Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Leipzig Ballet, Gauthier Dance // Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart, Ballet BC, Göteborg Opera, National Theatre Mannheim, Staatsoper Hannover, and Scottish Dance Theatre.

Alongside her creative work, Sofia Nappi is deeply engaged in research and professional training on an international level, in close collaboration with the dancers of KOMOCO. Since 2022, she has organized the Komoco Intensive workshop twice a year in Florence, welcoming professional dancers from around the world. A graduate of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York, Sofia’s artistic development has been profoundly shaped by her close connection with the Hofesh Shechter Dance Company and her study of Gaga, the movement language developed by the renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin.

Born in 1984, Nicolas Ballario works at the intersection of contemporary art and media. He is currently the author and host of contemporary art programs on Radio Uno Rai and a contributor to L’Espresso (where he writes a weekly column), Living / Corriere della Sera, Il Post, and Il Giornale dell’Arte. In 2019, he hosted Camera Oscura, a photography series on LA7, and since 2020 he has been presenting Io ti vedo, tu mi senti?, Italia Contemporanea, and The Square on Sky Arte.
