Dreamers

At Teatro Sociale di Brescia, Aterballetto presents Dreamers, an evening programme featuring choreographies by Diego Tortelli, Philippe Kratz, Angelin Preljocaj, and Crystal Pite.

A single performance that brings together the signature of Crystal Pite—one of the most sought-after choreographers between Europe and North America—with those of Diego Tortelli and Philippe Kratz, two of the most compelling and acclaimed choreographic voices under 40 on the international scene. The programme is completed by a pas de deux by Angelin Preljocaj, a choreographer firmly in the pantheon of dance.

Dreamers opens with Preludio by Brescia-born Diego Tortelli: a love letter to the body for five dancers, built around some of the most intense poems and songs by Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave, whose unmistakable voice envelops the audience.

At the heart of the evening is “O” by Philippe Kratz, former principal dancer with Aterballetto and now a choreographer commissioned by major theatres. In a state of emotional transcendence, we witness the encounter between a human being and a robot—two entities moving together to the endless rhythm of their unstoppable hearts.

Next comes Reconciliatio by Angelin Preljocaj, a duet set to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, exploring reconciliation through a poetic, impressionistic language inspired by a sustained—though not literal—engagement with the Book of Revelation.

The evening closes with the soft snowstorm of Solo Echo by Crystal Pite, inspired by two cello and piano sonatas by Johannes Brahms and the profound verses of Mark Strand. On stage, one breathes in the winter of the soul: time slows down, and the body becomes the vehicle for a tender yet powerful introspection. With delicacy and intensity, Pite reflects on loss, on accepting change, and on the mystery of resilience.
