The Chiostri di San Pietro are the most extraordinary monumental complex in Reggio Emilia, one of the most striking of the Italian Renaissance, with a shape that bears the recognisable hand of Giulio Romano.
The Chiostri di San Pietro are the evocative setting of DANZA AI CHIOSTRI, a summer event curated by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto and the Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia as part of the Restate summer programme of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.

Italia Danza – Madrid
From Sofia to Madrid, passing through Oslo and Cologne: this is the second phase of Italia Danza, on stage from April 27 to May 24, 2024.
A cosmopolitan project, entrusted to the universal language of the body, desired by the Directorate General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Farnesina, and interpreted by CCN/Aterballetto thanks to its now rich heritage of site-specific creations. A contemporary repertoire that includes MicroDanze (short creations for confined spaces, signed by Italian and international choreographers), but also stage performances revisited for the occasion, so they can be presented anywhere.
Galería de las Colecciones Reales | Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, May 23-24, 2024
Thanks to the collaboration between the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid and the Galería de las Colecciones Reales, on May 23 and 24, the closing stage of the second edition of “Italia Danza” will be held in Madrid with a particularly ambitious itinerary: it will start at the Galería de Las Colecciones Reales and continue at the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid, with choreographies by Elena Kekkou, Francesca Lattuada, Angelin Preljocaj, Philippe Kratz, and Diego Tortelli.
“We are thrilled to be part of the second edition of Italia Danza. The Madrid stage will be truly special: with the MicroDanze chosen together with Aterballetto and the Spanish partners, we will create an ideal bridge between the wonderful spaces of our Institute, a symbol of Italian culture in Spain, and the Galería de las Colecciones Reales, a custodian of the history and heritage of this extraordinary country. Once again, Italian and Spanish culture meet, and once again, we are protagonists with our cultural and creative excellences.”

FAMILY CONTACT: THE WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Sunday, May 26 – 10:00 AM | Fonderia
“The body has its own laws and follows a logic that, however, is not necessarily that of reason” (Kazuo Ono)
The body is an expressive instrument capable of establishing relationships, creating forms, interpreting stories and music. The encounter with dance is an important opportunity for both physical and emotional growth. Family Contact is a moment of sharing between children and parents that aims to explore new worlds. Being together through the body, movement, physical contact, creating and building a new harmonic union. Parents and children will experiment with new relationships, new spaces, new languages, all through the body that will enjoy improvising and experimenting with new collective games, in a non-verbal dialogue rich in human connections. With Family Contact time stands still and imagination takes over.
THE SHOW: STRAVAGANZE IN G MINOR BY FRANCESCA LATTUADA
Sunday, May 26 – 11:30 AM | Fonderia
The magical virtuosity of Toti Scialoja (1914-1998), a master not only of images but also of words, is the basis of this new creation for children and teenagers, signed by the National Dance Foundation / Aterballetto.
The almost magical vibrations that flow from Scialoja’s poems are like the infinite rings created on the surface of the water when a stone is thrown: evoking unreal or hyper-real images, carrying a musicality that mixes poetry and nursery rhyme, making the extraordinary and the frightening join hands.
VISIONI DEL CORPO: THE BODY IN DANGER
Visioni del corpo is a series of events that from May 27th to November 29th, 2024 will feature a blend of contemporary art and dance, in a journey where the common denominator will be the body. Six encounters on contemporary art led by Nicolas Ballario, where alongside words there will be dance, through some performative interventions in connection with the presented works. Each encounter will be divided into six moments where Ballario will introduce six works by six different artists, well-known figures in the contemporary scene also to non-enthusiast audiences. Each encounter will be entrusted to a choreographer, who will translate into dance the suggestions evoked by the discussed works. Each encounter will enrich a small “dancing encyclopedia” of contemporary art, investigating how illustrious artists have dealt with the theme of the body. Before and after the events at Fonderia, the bar service will be available, offering an aperitif to stimulate dialogue among different audiences and different forms of art.
First Appointment: Monday, May 27th at 9:00 PM at Fonderia
The Body in Danger
Dialogue between Nicolas Ballario, Roberto Escobar, and Roberto Tedesco
Choreography by Roberto Tedesco
Focus on Marina Abramovich, Jean Michel Basquiat, Joseph Beuys, Yves Kleins, Tracey Emin, Bill Viola
In partnership with
The first appointment is born in collaboration with the festivalfilosofia of Modena, Carpi, and Sassuolo, a historic event that connects a key word in each edition, which refers to fundamental issues in philosophical discussion and crucial experiences of contemporary condition, like the upcoming September with psyche. A reflection on the mind will also open the theme interpreted by Roberto Tedesco: on May 27th at Fonderia, the investigation will delve into The Body in Danger, a macro-topic starting from the anthropology of risk and could extend to climate emergency, addressing in general all physical and psychosomatic emergencies that the contemporary body faces. Dialoguing with the choreographer and Nicolas Ballario will be the philosopher Roberto Escobar.
The audience will also experience a VR experience with Francesca Lattuada’s MicroDanza, It’s Dangerous Not to Lean Out, with Oculus available one hour before and one hour after the encounter.
