The Compagnia Dimitri/Canessa was founded in Livorno in 2013. Among its main productions are: Bruno (2013), a performance drawn from the works of Bruno Schulz, winner of the FIT, Festival Internazionale di Teatro di Lugano and named by MilanoTeatri among the best performances presented in Milan for the 2017/18 season; ..di Giulietta e del suo Romeo (2014), an Italian-Swiss co-production for teenage audiences; Hallo! I’m Jacket! il gioco del nulla (2016), a performance that received numerous accolades, an In-Box finalist, Premio Nazionale per il Teatro Contemporaneo 2017 and winner of the l’Italia dei Visionari call for Kilowatt Festival 2017; Ad esempio questo cielo (2019), a performance inspired by the life and works of Raymond Carver, produced with the support of the Theatherwerkstatt Gleis 5 (CH); Geppetto 201 (2022), a performance drawn from Fabio Stassi’s beautiful novel Mastro Geppetto (Ed. Sellerio) and produced in collaboration with Theaterwerkstatt Glai 5 (CH), Pilar Ternera/Nuovo Teatro delle Commedie, and Come alla fine di Casablanca, premiering in July 2027 within the Festival Inequilibrio. Alongside their production of work for contemporary audiences, Elisa Canessa and Federico Dimitri have for years been involved in theatre for children, collaborating as authors and performers with choreographer Giorgio Rossi/Sosta Palmizi. Their collaboration with Francesco Manenti is, moreover, a twenty-year artistic partnership that has seen them work side by side on many creations. Together, for young audiences, they have created Col Naso All’Insù (2016) and Esercizi di Fantastica (2020 – Jury and Audience Prize at the Vimercate Ragazzi Festival 2021; Special Mention at the “Emanuele Luzzati” Theatre for Young Audiences Prize, Municipality of Santa Margherita Ligure 2023). In 2022 the Compagnia Dimitri/Canessa produced, with the support of Pilar Ternera/Nuovo Teatro delle Commedie, the performance L’Orso Felice, winner of In-box verde 2023, Mention from the In-box Critical Observatory 2023 and Best Young and Kids Performance at the FIT, Festival Internazionale del Teatro di Lugano. In addition to its production activity, the company collaborates with two schools of advanced pedagogy in Zurich (Liceo Atelierschule and Liceo Raphaelschule), where it carries out a social theatre project with over 40 young people with disabilities. With them, directed by Federico Dimitri, the following performances have been created: Il verbo degli uccelli; Orfeo e Euridice; Antigone/Wir sind die Prinzessin; Perfect Place, Dreamland and La fattoria degli animali.
