Toward Building an Under-30 Audience

How are dance and contemporary art perceived by the under-30 generation?

After months of dialogue and exchange between the Centro Coreografico Nazionale / Aterballetto and the Wave Project association of Reggio Emilia, the time has come to share this journey with the city, opening the relationship to a wider and curious audience.

On Wednesday, December 17, from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, the Fonderia will open its doors for a special evening featuring a talk with company dancers, an aperitivo, and a DJ set—all curated and hosted by the under-30 members of Wave Project.

A unique opportunity to discover dance through a new lens: a fresh, plural, and participatory perspective on the world that connects us, where thought, movement, and creativity intertwine.

A Lens on the Art of Humanity: the 2025–2026 collaboration

The event on December 17 is part of the broader project A Lens on the Art of Humanity, an experimental audience development pathway involving CCN/Aterballetto and Wave Project, a social promotion association founded in 2017 by a group of young people from Reggio Emilia committed to creating opportunities for growth and social innovation through artistic and musical languages.

The project — titled A Lens on the Art of Humanity, a name chosen by the Wave Project participants themselves — draws inspiration from the theme of the 2025 edition of TEDxReggioEmilia, Humanity, and develops in collaboration with TEDxReggioEmilia and Collezione Maramotti, two cultural and creative institutions deeply rooted in the city and sharing common values with CCN/Aterballetto.

Since the autumn, the young members of Wave Project have been attending performances, rehearsals, exhibitions, meetings, and backstage visits, entering into direct dialogue with artists, choreographers, and experts in contemporary art.
Their storytelling also takes shape through their own languages — video, music content, interviews, social media formats — offering an authentic, generational perspective on humanity.

The evening of December 17, open to the city, marks the first public moment of this collaboration.

The event is part of Animali Intelligenti, a major new cultural program co-designed by 36 associations from Reggio Emilia together with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia: more than 70 events weaving together theatre, music, dance, workshops, and visual arts, all created to activate the community through culture.

An Investment in the Audience of the Future

With A Lens on the Art of Humanity, the CCN/Aterballetto strengthens its role as a cultural engine for the territory and reaffirms its commitment to building a stable and generative relationship with younger generations, promoting access to dance and contemporary art through direct experience, participation, and co-creation.
