Danza & Danza Award 2020

A paradigmatic myth, ancient and contemporary,
a choreographer now at the apex of creativity,
a company embarking on an ambitious path of repositioning and growth, all come together to bring to life
what is destined to be one of the major performances of 2020.

This is how we presented Johan Inger‘s Don Juan at its debut on 9 October in Ferrara.
And today we are happy and proud to announce that Don Juan has received the Danza&Danza Award “Best Italian Production” 2020.

This is the motivation of the jury composed of Maria Luisa Buzzi (President), Elisabetta Ceron, Giuseppe Distefano, Francesca Pedroni, Silvia Poletti, Sergio Trombetta, Carmelo A. Zapparrata:

The new creation by Johan Inger for Aterballetto, despite the infinite number of complications due to the lock-down, made its autumn debut at the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara and immediately afterwards at the Théàtre de Chaillot in Paris, confirming an artistic relationship that we have already rewarded with the exciting concertante work Bliss. Here, Inger continues his personal expressive research in the field of dramatic ballet, which he develops in a readable and creative way, with shrewdness, choreographic inventiveness and psychological acumen, offering an interesting key to the myth of the seducer and above all a fascinating perspective, which simultaneously explores the complicated mystery of the female soul. This also allows him to highlight the different personalities of the Reggio Emilia company, successfully engaged in giving expressive substance to the multifaceted characters imagined by the Swedish author.
