Cultural welfare models between scientific evidence and the need for new policies

Conference and workshop
March 10 – 11, 2023

Loris Malaguzzi International Center
viale Ramazzini, 72/a – Reggio Emilia

The Cultural Welfare experiences carried out in Reggio Emilia with specific methodology, political intentionality, continuity and institutional transversality since 2017, allow us today to present to the city, operators, service planners and public administrators a first restitution based on statistical evidence, impact analysis, comparison with international realities that have asked the same questions we have been working on:

– Can the arts, enjoyed and practiced, significantly enrich the work of those working in the social and health sector?    – How much impact does culture (the arts in particular) have in generating well-being in practitioners and users of personal services?
– What are the economic impacts in less medicalized societies?

If it is true, as international scoping reviews now show, that the arts are key determinants of salutogenesis, then it is time to discuss policies to support a new vision of the relationship between culture, welfare and health, starting with the training of practitioners at all levels and the planning of programs and resources.

The conference, starting from the Reggio Emilia experience, intends to give voice to some of the most significant experiences conducted in the region, in a dimension that is not only conference-based but also operational and workshop-based.

The two days will be devoted to delving into specific aspects. On Friday, March 10, different experiences of Cultural Welfare from our territory will be presented to operators and service managers. Saturday, March 11, on the other hand, will be devoted to scientific evidence and its reception in the form of integrated policies between culture, welfare and health.

Participation in the lectures and workshops is free of charge subject to availability

DANCE AND FRAGILITY

The workshop takes the form of a presentation aimed at sharing the processes of research, production and artistic training developed by the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza /Aterballetto and dedicated to the theme of fragility. The relationship of choreographers with the “different body for a different virtuosity” is at the center of these paths that, in their peculiar ramifications and fruit of interdisciplinary collaborations, impact as much on the unique qualities of the performers as on the audience’s perception. Over dance, dedicated to the dimension of longevity and developed with the advice and partnership of the Fondazione Ravasi Garzanti, and Danza e fragilità, whose focus is instead on the disabled body, are the two multi-year macro-projects that, through choreographic creation, transcend the specific boundaries of dance and project us toward some major issues of the contemporary world. With the help of videos and images, the curators of these experiences will explore the two areas of reflection and dialogue with participants.
