MAPS 1:610
MAPS 1: 610
by Jorge R. Pombo and Saul Daniele Ardillo
Exhibition created by Fondazione Palazzo Magnani and Fondazione Nazionale della Danza / Aterballetto in the context of After Futuri Digitali
MAPS 1: 610 comes from the meeting between Jorge R. Pombo, painter and Saul Daniele Ardillo, choreographer. The connections between technology, dance and painting become the heart of the research of the two artists: Pombo has left the task of reinterpreting charcoal – in a mix between digital and analogue – the plants of some big cities taken from google maps; while the dancers, on choreography by Ardillo, complete the work by dancing on the painter’s canvases. Everything will be done during a performance (scheduled for Sunday, October 21st), then reproduced on display by screens and projectors so as to tell the creative process.
The two artists have very different histories and personalities (Jorge R. Pombo, a native born but stateless by vocation, with a life spent between different countries, and Saul Daniele Ardillo, from Puglia, a talented dancer and choreographer from Aterballetto for 11 years) from the need to probe the expressive limits of their research, putting it in close contact with an artistic discipline in many ways opposed to its own.
Pombo, inspired by the concepts of the legendary Black Mountain College and interested in investigating the intervention of the case and the loss of control over the pictorial process, finds in the dance a precious alter ego to which to deliver part of the creation, leaving it to complete the work is autonomous.
For its part Ardillo takes the opportunity to develop a choreographic code in which the movement is no longer exclusively “fine” but also “creative” means.
