Aterballetto at the Granada Festival

Aterballetto in Granada: final performance of Don Juan and MicroDanze at the Alhambra for the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza.

Two events celebrating Italian dance in one of Spain’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

On June 28 and 29, Aterballetto arrives in Granada with two powerful artistic proposals, as part of a project supported by the Direzione Generale per la diplomazia pubblica e culturale del MAECI and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Madrid.

June 28 | Don Juan – Teatro del Generalife | Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada

As part of the prestigious Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada, Aterballetto presents the final performance of Don Juan, a choreographic masterpiece by Johan Inger inspired by the legendary figure born in 17th-century Spain through the work of Tirso de Molina.

Reimagined with a contemporary and insightful perspective, Don Juan explores themes of desire, guilt, and responsibility—moving beyond the cliché of the seducer to offer a powerful and timely reflection.

Awarded Best Production of 2020 by Danza&Danza magazine, the work has captivated international stages with its expressive power, the dancers’ virtuosity, and the visual intensity of its staging.

June 29 | MicroDanze – Alhambra | FEX – Festival Internacional de Música y Danza de Granada

The second event is part of FEX – Festival Extensión, the section of the Granada Festival dedicated to promoting the performing arts in urban and heritage spaces. One of the most iconic symbols of Andalusian culture—the Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and masterpiece of Islamic art—becomes an open-air stage for MicroDanze.

Two choreographic routes are scheduled (at 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM), guiding the audience from the Plaza de los Aljibes to the Torres Bermejas, passing through the enchanting Fundación Rodríguez-Acosta. With its refined architecture, water features, airy courtyards, and hanging gardens, the setting provides a one-of-a-kind backdrop for an exceptional choreographic journey.

Works on stage:

  • An Echo, A Wave by Philippe Kratz

  • Turn the Tide by Roberto Tedesco

  • A Gig by Diego Tortelli

  • Near Life Experience by Angelin Preljocaj

  • Platform 02 by Ina Lesnakowski

  • Eppur si muove by Francesca Lattuada

The MicroDanze experience offers an intimate, close-up encounter with choreographic gesture, in poetic dialogue with the architecture and landscape of the Alhambra—a place that embodies centuries of civilization and beauty.
