Weekend with the circus

Open your horizons.

Explore the art of the circus with the Fondazione Nazionale della Danza!

On Saturday 28 September from 6.00 p.m. we are waiting for you in the Press Room of the Teatro Municipale Valli in Reggio Emilia for the presentation of the book ‘Conoscere, creare e organizzare circo’ (Knowing, creating and organising circus), edited by Valeria Campo and Alessandro Serena. This volume is part of the series ‘Lo spettacolo dal vivo. Per una cultura dell’innovazione’ published by Franco Angeli and edited by Mimma Gallina and Oliviero Ponte di Pino.

A fascinating look at the circus world, today in profound transformation, with a special focus on the Italian panorama. A book full of testimonies by artists and organisers, exploring the different declinations of the circus, from street festivals to big events, passing through theatres and big tents.

The meeting is aimed at all those who, fascinated by a Fellini-esque chapiteau or a contemporary circus performance full of invention, wish to delve into the history and “behind the scenes” of the world’s greatest show.

Present at the meeting will be the author Valeria Campo, president of the MiBAC Circuses and Travelling Show Commission since 2014, and Mimma Gallina, theatre organiser and teacher at the Scuola Civica ‘Paolo Grassi’ in Milan.

At the meeting it will be possible to purchase the book thanks to the collaboration with Libreria All’Arco of Reggio Emilia.

After the creation Somnium in 2015, Juan Ignacio Tula and Stefan Kinsman continue to explore the singularity of the trio they form with the tool “Roue Cyr”, a human-sized metal wheel, in a lyrical and astonishing relationship.
Combining affinities and differences, the two artists share questions about religion, paganism, multiculturalism, identity, developing a relationship made of violence, forgiveness, complicity and tolerance, as if they were part of an ancient ritual in which the invisible is invoked.
